SUMMARY
The Data Center Operations Supervisor is a highly visible, customer facing and responsible role for the specialized functions of the daily operations (Remote Hand and Eye and Customer provisioning) of the Data Center and assignment of its staff to these areas.
Responsibilities include overseeing and performing customer equipment installs, managing tickets within the defined ticketing system, communicating and escalating alerts and customer requests to systems engineers for resolution, and completing break/fix tasks pertaining to computer hardware, software or operation systems. This role is also responsible for supervision responsibilities including employee development, coaching, on-the-job training, mentoring, and assisting with staffing job assignments and labor forecasting.
This role requires on-site work hours to support a 24X7X365 data center environment and is not eligible for remote and/or hybrid work.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises the team to have a clean and safe workplace while maintaining data center at all times based on standards and direction of QTS Leadership, drive improvement, track department performance metrics, and perform all critical and non-critical processes/maintenances and participate in predictive maintenances.
Has direct reports and establishes performance goals, monitors progress, and leads in ways to enhance their professional development and success of their team while creating a positive work environment and carrying out local and corporate objectives.
Creates department staff scheduling, plans and leads team meetings
Maintain positive relationship and communication with staff and executive level management, provide updates and reporting to QTS Leadership and stand-in for QTS Leadership as needed
Utilize key performance indicators to monitor the effectiveness of operational programs through benchmarking and the utilization of best practices.
Reviews and provides input in the preparation of and implementation of effective operating budget including CapX and OpX budgets
Resolve technical issues with hardware, software and connectivity thru proper utilization or staff resources.
Monitor and coordinate with techs the email and ticketing system management, oversees and troubleshoots customer issues while maintaining agreed upon service levels for customer contact and resolution, and inform QTS Leadership of any outage or adverse customer events
Supervises the DCO team to record, manage, and maintain accurate physical infrastructure and provisioning inventory including performing physical hardware and space audits, and hardware warranty/RMA requests for QTS owned assets
Supervise installs/upgrades/replace servers, devices, or network components as needed
Support sales teams by planning and coordinating new logo provisioning and maintaining available space inventory
Oversee and coordinate continuous improvement initiatives; MOPs, SOPs, team, individual drills, onboarding, etc. and identify areas of improvement
Supervise logistic team resources to ensure deliveries and transport requests are met
Manages and coordinates third party vendors within the data center to ensure compliancy, specifications and quality standards
Lead and determine project schedules by studying project plans and specifications, calculating time requirements, assigning personnel to phases, getting and reviewing contractor bids, while updating management in a timely manner
Leads the network cabling installation and removal to support infrastructure needs
Position may require 24x7x365 on-call responsibilities.
Perform other duties as needed.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Technical college degree or equivalent professional experience
Four or more years of experience working in a Data Center, NOC or similar environment
Demonstrated fiber optic/copper cable termination and troubleshooting.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
CDCDP, RCDD, CAPM, CCNA, Network+, Server+, Security+, Storage (NetBackup or EMC), or DCIM II certifications
Additional certifications such as Microsoft certifications, OEM certifications, BICSI Installer I & II, CCENT, LAN300, DCIM
Seven or more years of related experience in Data Centers or similar environment (i.e. critical facilities, military etc.)
Bachelor’s degree in a related field
Two or more years’ experience leading or managing teams
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to interface with all levels of the organization
Exceptional customer service and keen attention to detail
Ability to analyze the operation of various systems, determine the cause of any problems/malfunctions and take corrective action as required
Ability to manage complex situations during off management hours - single point of contact
Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills
Ability to function in a team environment
The ability to pass job-related skills assessments based on pre-determined scoring criteria and time frames.
The ability to acquire and apply job-related knowledge within set guidelines and expectations.
Position may involve frequent typing, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, bending, reaching and lifting. Lifting requirements may range from <10 lbs. - 50 lbs. on a regular basis, with heavier weights done in conjunction with other individuals or lifting aids.
