Court Services Interviewer
DUTIES OF THE POSITION:Interviewing defendants in the Monroe County Jail and/or the courts to assess risk of flight, and clarify criminal justice related informationDeveloping rapport with defendants which maximizes the accuracy of the risk assessmentMaking personal contact with defendants prior to release to explain the conditions of release and program related expectationsMaking telephone calls to verify information from references given by the defendant.Utilizing all the information gathered in the interview process to develop an appropriate recommendation for release based on the risk assessment instrumentFacilitating the release of defendants through making written or oral recommendations to the appropriate courtMaking frequent court appearances and verbally communicating information to the court regarding defendants.Listening to and recording information given in an open court setting regarding defendants and case related information.Making personal and telephone contacts with defendants regarding conditions of release, court appearances, and other case monitoring issues.Monitoring defendants' appearances and assisting defendants in returning voluntarily to the court process if a failure to appear occurs.Making telephone and personal contacts with defense counsel, judges, district attorneys, court and jail personnelMaintaining strict confidentiality of protected informationMaintaining accurate and up to date records both manually and on the agency data base on client and case related informationMaintaining cooperative relationships with components of the criminal justice system and allied service providersPerforming any other tasks as deemed appropriate by the administration of Pre-Trial Services CorporationUtilize computer technology to interview clients and complete job tasks as required
REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION:This position requires that the employee walk to and from the Monroe County downtown jail and the Hall of Justice, two blocks away from the agency's location, up to several times per day.
This position requires that the employee drive to and from the Monroe County Jail Facility in Henrietta and walk to, from, and throughout that facility to see detained defendants.This position requires sitting in a courtroom for up to four hours broken up with brief periods of time to interact with defendants, attorneys, or court personnel. This position requires climbing stairs to access the Hall of Justice and parts of the jail to perform the defendant interviews. In addition, the Interviewer must be able to open heavy doors to gain access to some locations.This position requires that the employee be able to stand and interview defendants in the jail, the courts and the bull pen behind the court rooms at the Hall of Justice holding an approximately five (5) pound notebook in one hand and writing with the other hand to record defendant responses to the interview questions. The position requires that the Interviewer must be able to communicate verbally and hear responses in noisy environments such as the jail and the courts.The employee must be able to enter information into the agency data base and utilize email for notifications.The employee must be able to walk from his/her desk to retrieve documents from a central location in the agency and to use the criminal justice record (MoRIS) computer to retrieve such records.This position requires extensive use of the telephone for contacting defendants, collateral contacts and courts.This position requires varied schedules including some weekend work and holidays
A Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university in the field of counseling, psychology, or social work with a minimum of one (1) year of full time, paid experience in the field of social work or counseling.
