Title:Counselor
Reports to: Building Principal
Supervises: Students/assigned staff members

Job Summary:
To help students overcome problems that impede learning and to assistthem in making educational, occupational, and life plans that holdpromise for their personal fulfillment as mature and responsible men andwomen.
Qualifications:
Masters degree with appropriate Kansas licensure.
Performance Responsibilities:
Aids students in course and subject selection.Obtains and disseminates occupational information to students and toclasses studying occupations.Assists students in evaluating their aptitudes and abilities throughthe interpretation of individual standardized test scores and otherpertinent data and works with students in evolving education andoccupation plans in terms of such evaluation.Works to discover and develop special abilities of students.Works to address/resolve students educational handicaps.Registers students new to the school and orients them to schoolprocedures and the schools varied opportunities for learning.Works to prevent students from dropping out of school.Helps students evaluate career interests and choices.Remains readily available to students to provide counseling thatwill lead each student to increased personal growth, maturity, andunderstanding of self and others.Works with students on an individual basis in the solution ofpersonal problems related to such problems as home and familyrelations, health, and emotional adjustment.Coordinates guidance field trips to schools, colleges, and industryfor interested students.Guides students in their participation in school and communityactivities.Maintains student records and protects their confidentiality.Supervises the preparation and processing of college, scholarships,and employment applications.Makes recommendations to colleges for admissions and scholarships.Provides student information to colleges and potential employersaccording to provisions of the Boards policy on student records.Confers with parents whenever necessary.Works with teachers and other staff members to familiarize them withthe general range of services offered through the districts K-12guidance program, and to improve the educational prospects ofindividual students being counseled.Provides input to administrators and faculty on matters dealing withoverall student performance.Takes an active roll in interpreting the schools objectives tostudents, parents, and the community at large.Organizes and facilitates implementation of school to careerprograms.Conduct character education classes that help students become betterdecision makers if needed.Assists in arrangements for tutors and summer schoolwork.Demonstrates effective human relations and communication skills.Complies with good safety practices.Complies with all district rules, regulations, and policies.Other duties as assigned.Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required workand move about as needed in a fast-pace, high-intensive workenvironment.
