About Counsel, Product & Commercial (Healthcare)

At Lyft, our mission is to improve people’s lives with the world’s best transportation. To do this, we start with our own community by creating an open, inclusive, and diverse organization.

Lyft is seeking a dynamic and self-motivated attorney to join the Product & Commercial Legal team. We’re looking for a counsel to provide legal guidance related to enterprise contracts and healthcare compliance for Lyft Healthcare (https://www.lyft.com/healthcare) , as well as initiatives that influence Lyft’s business-to-business rideshare products for Lyft Business and other Lyft Business matters. Familiarity with the healthcare industry’s regulatory framework, including government programs like Medicaid and Medicare, will be fundamental to your role. Experience working at a technology company, especially as a product counsel, with B2B and B2C platforms and familiarity with government contracting also will be beneficial for your work at Lyft.

The legal and business issues you’ll encounter are cutting edge, revolutionary and always evolving, so it will be up to you to continuously assess and advise using a creative and pragmatic approach. The successful candidate will be skilled at building strong relationships, working in the unknown while balancing legal and business risks, and comfortable working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. The successful candidate also will be flexible and willing to evolve and contribute to the often-changing legal needs of our team and Lyft.

  Responsibilities:

Learn Lyft’s overall rideshare business, how Lyft’s business-to-business rideshare products work, and the legal and regulatory framework in which Lyft and Lyft Healthcare operate to serve as a legal advisor for Lyft Healthcare and Lyft Business

Support Lyft Business product teams on projects related to new features, products, services, and programs related to Lyft Business and Lyft’s business-to-business rideshare products

Assist with contract drafting and negotiation for a variety of contracts, including B2B enterprise contracts, Business Associate Agreements, information security agreements, Medicaid provider agreements, and contracts involving complex partnerships, healthcare non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT), technology platforms, and APIs

Contribute to the ongoing maintenance of an effective healthcare compliance program, including development and review of policies and procedures, training, and risk assessments

Conduct legal research on federal and state healthcare laws, regulations, policies, and requirements (e.g., Medicaid, Medicare Advantage, HIPAA, anti-kickback)

Coordinate advice and collaborate with cross-functional business and legal stakeholders, including product, marketing, engineering, and healthcare, on legal and business issues to help ensure compliance with laws

Spot and analyze legal issues, including those related to contracts, healthcare, consumer protection laws, privacy, and employment

Prioritize workload to set goals and meet deadlines in a fluctuating and sometimes ambiguous business environment

Collaborate with legal team and business team members to improve processes and ensure business demands are satisfied

  Experience:

Membership in a state bar with good standing

4-6 years of legal experience working in healthcare, with a strong preference for a combination of law firm (2+ years) and in-house legal department experience (experience at a technology company as a product counsel is a plus)

Familiarity with Medicaid and Medicare Advantage program requirements, healthcare privacy guidelines, and compliance and ethics programs

Experience working on complex commercial transactions (e.g., Medicaid provider agreements, group purchasing organization agreements, customer and user facing terms of service, and Business Associate Agreements)

Excellent issue-spotting skills, attention to detail, problem-solving capabilities, communication (written and verbal), and interpersonal skills

Keen ability to collaborate, build trust, educate, and foster connections between legal and business colleagues

Willing and eager to take on new areas of law, new areas of responsibility, and to think creatively to apply traditional laws and regulations to Lyft’s technology platform and transportation network company business and, in particular, Lyft Healthcare

Good business and legal judgment, a caring, thoughtful, and team-focused mindset, and the ability to think quickly on your feet, convey grace under pressure, and operate autonomously while simultaneously managing workloads, multiple client demands, and shifting priorities

Strategic and business-savvy to help balance legal risk while guiding business decisions

  Benefits:

Great medical, dental, and vision insurance options

  Mental health benefits

  Family building benefits

In addition to 12 observed holidays, salaried team members have unlimited paid time off, hourly team members have 15 days paid time off

401(k) plan to help save for your future

18 weeks of paid parental leave. Biological, adoptive, and foster parents are all eligible

  Pre-tax commuter benefits
