Enforces rules and regulations governing facility security, inmateaccountability and inmate conduct to ensure judicial sanctions arecarried out and inmates remain in custody. From time to time, may beauthorized to carry firearms and to use physical force, including deadlyforce, to maintain control of inmates.
During institution emergencies or other periods of heavy workload orlimited staff, may be required to work long and irregular hours, unusualshifts, Sundays, holidays and unexpected overtime. Incumbent must beflexible and have a broad knowledge base to use own initiative in theresolution of problem situations.

Appointment is subject to satisfactory completion of a urinalysis,physical, and background investigation. All applicants are subject toNational Crime Information Center (NCIC) and credit checks.
All applicants not currently working in an institution will be requiredto complete a qualification inquiry regarding convictions of misdemeanorcrimes of domestic violence in order to be authorized to carry afirearm.
The Core Value Assessment (CVA) is an in-person assessment that must befacilitated at a Bureau of Prisons Human Resource Servicing office. Onthe day of the scheduled interview, a CVA will be administered. Theapplicant assessment must be completed within a 70 minute time periodand a passing score must be obtained. Further employment considerationwill not be extended if the applicant fails to complete the examinationor fails to achieve a passing score. Note: The Core Value Assessmentwill not be administered to current BOP employees.
Successful completion of the \"Introduction to CorrectionalTechniques,\" three-week training course at Glynco, Georgia is required.
