Controller
San Francisco; Hybrid
$175k-$190k + Bonus
Key Responsibilities:
The Controller will oversee accounting, financial analysis, and administration for a real estate portfolio. They will collaborate with property managers and accountants while providing support to the CFO and Managing Partner in the day-to-day business operations.
Lead a small team of outsourced accounting and administrative professionals, collaborating with property managers.
Maintain accurate financial records for a range of income-producing properties with different ownership structures.
Supervise accounts receivable, accounts payable, and cash management for each property/entity, ensuring effective control systems.
Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for each entity.
Assist in preparing regular communications to investors and lenders, ensuring compliance.
Manage investors' capital accounts and oversee joint venture waterfall calculations.
Coordinate the annual budget process and re-forecasting with asset management teams.
Oversee job costing for new development and capital projects at existing properties.
Interface with external auditors and tax preparers for annual audits, tax returns, and analyses.
Analyze financial results to identify issues and opportunities.
Research cost savings and process improvement opportunities.
Prepare budgets and requested financial analyses.
Develop financial projections for potential capital investments.
Assist in managing human resources processes and insurance renewals.
Requirements
Professional Experience/Qualifications
Preferably holds a BA/BS Degree with a focus on accounting or a related business discipline; a Master's degree is a plus.
7+ years of experience in fund accounting, tax/financial management, with a preference for recent experience in a real estate company.
Proficient in GAAP and tax basis accounting; CPA is a plus.
Demonstrates strong analytical skills and experience in cash flow projections.
Familiarity with Real Estate Accounting software, especially Yardi.
Knowledge of Human Resource practices, processes, and procedures.
Experience with income-producing real estate is beneficial.
Additional experience in fund accounting and investors' reporting is a plus.
Proven track record of building and managing high-performing teams.
Self-motivated individual capable of succeeding in a less structured environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Upholds high standards of personal integrity and respects individuals.
