Description
The Construction Claims Manager supports Engineer Procure Construct (EPC), Program Management, Self-Perform Construction, and Fabrication projects to drive the resolution of contractual claims and disputes between any number of parties, including owners, subcontractors, and suppliers. The Construction Claims Manager will assist in developing a strategy and assembling the necessary documentation to support or resolve construction-related disputes. The Construction Claims Manager is responsible for pulling together multi-disciplined teams to develop narratives supporting dispute resolution. This position will function to resolve disputes successfully.
Lead the analysis and preparation of complex construction delay/disruption/acceleration and cost claims.
Lead the preparation of reports and present findings to assist in claim negotiations with opposing parties.
Perform construction schedule and cost reviews for ongoing projects and provide opinions, advice and reports on project progress and forecasts.
Lead communication plan for clear and concise action plans to present the next steps for moving a claim to closure.
Provide guidance and coaching to senior leaders, managers, and employees throughout the change process. Support leaders in effectively leading their teams through dispute resolution and develop claims management capabilities within the organization.
Adhere to the company’s safety programs, training, and policies, as well as promote and manage the Safety & Health performance of project team members and subcontractors.
Collaborate with project teams to understand claim status and support investigation, documentation, and procedures.
Support and participate in project planning, scheduling, estimating, cost development, and establishing critical project objectives as needed.
Participate in internal and external project risk reviews and consult with the Legal Department as required.
Read contract language, determine proper interpretation, and apply to facts.
Support the negotiation of prime contracts, CM contracts, subcontracts, and change orders as needed.
Participate in the risk review process.
Develop claim best practices and procedures.
Train project teams on developing plans to mitigate project-level claims/disputes.
Lead project audits and oversee documentation efforts from projects that have pending claims.
Perform project safety, quality, progress, financial audits, and assessments as required.
Review contract documents with field staff to verify compliance of subcontractors and client contractors, safety and health requirements, quality, and schedule.
Review construction field reports.
Provide mentorship and training to interns, construction coordinators, craft supervisors, and assistant construction project managers.
Manage relationships with the community of the project, and build relationships with the trades, and subcontractors.
May be assigned to a project site based on project requirements.
Participate in large or complex project go/no-go process.
Participate in Project Assessments as assigned.
All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Construction, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
Applicable experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.
A minimum of 7 years relevant project management/claims management experience in the construction industry.
Excellent computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Access).
Experience with document control, scheduling, cost control and project management software is preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong organizational skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
Ability to handle large volumes of work and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
Multiple years of experience on construction project sites or executing program management in the industries of aviation, commercial, energy, government, manufacturing, oil & gas, process, transportation, transmission & distribution, or water is preferred.
A basic understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles is required.
Must be able to meet the company's driving requirements.
