Job Purpose or Objective(s): Under supervision of the Conservation & Education Outreach Coordinator, participates in the development of both short- and long-range wildlife management and research projects. Assists in the planning, organizing the successful completion of assigned projects within predetermined guidelines. Must become familiar with Choctaw Nation principles and Animal Game code. Accurately observe, record, and analyze scientific data and prepare and submit detailed reports. Conduct audio and visual wildlife surveys, day/night. Carry out objectives for wildlife management including nuisance animal control/removal, habitat manipulation, and wildlife surveys.
Our Summer Intern Program is an 8-week temporary, paid program that runs from June 3rd - July 26th, 2024. Housing available.
Internships are only open to Choctaw Nation tribal members currently enrolled in college.
Primary Tasks:
Participate in planning, development, coordination and implementation of wildlife research and management projects. Assist in establishing project goals and participate in the development of the Division objectives.
Conduct surveys of assigned species of wildlife or plants and hunter success surveys on assigned species of wildlife.
Assist in supervision and management of hunting seasons and controlled hunts as directed.
Assist in selecting and establishing hunter check stations and assist in supervising the operation of the stations. Operate check stations as required.
Conduct habitat surveys to evaluate grazing or browsing pressure, habitat quality, and potential for production of various wildlife species. Make recommendations on management and other non-wildlife uses.
May perform other duties, management, or non-management, as assigned by Supervisor.
Required Education, Skills and Experience:
Minimum
Choctaw CDIB cardholder or Choctaw Tribal Member
Currently attending an accredited college, university or post-secondary educational institution.
Proven team player, willing to work collaboratively with utmost professionalism.
Proven work ethic with willingness to learn/adopt applicable trade skills, innovation and technology.
Recognized ability to be punctual, work weekends and flexible hours.
