The Department of Aerospace Engineering at the University of IllinoisUrbana-Champaign invites applications for a full-time Clinical Professor(i.e. Professor of Practice working title) position of any rank(Assistant, Associate, or Full). The successful candidate will join thedepartment\'s thriving community of faculty and will make a significantimpact on aerospace engineering education by providing instruction tograduate and undergraduate students based on their knowledge gained frompractical, real-world engineering experience. The position is planned tocomplement current expertise in the department in spacecraft andaircraft design, including, but not limited to, areas such as guidance,navigation, and control, aerospace systems, materials and structures,aerodynamics and propulsion, embedded systems, human spaceflight, andaerospace medicine.
A Clinical Professor in Aerospace Engineering at the University ofIllinois Urbana-Champaign:
Is a member of the department faculty, with voting rights, and hasexecutive authority over how they spend their time in pursuit of impacton students, the discipline, and society. There is exceptionalflexibility in that they define the focus of their position incollaboration with the department, demonstrate it has potential to beimpactful, and strive to realize and show impact.
Is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, usually two persemester. Courses tend to be focused on applied engineering in order tobring practical, real-world experience and knowledge to instruction.
May supervise student research as appropriate and collaborate withcolleagues inside and outside of the department and University. They mayestablish research programs, manage labs, lead testing programs, and/ormodeling campaigns for purposes they identify, and may write proposalsto outside entities to support such endeavors.
May receive annually a multi-year appointment for 9-month academic yearservice. Salaries are negotiable, commensurate with experience andpromise, and increase with merit. They m ay also receive maximum threeadditional (summer) months of salary from grants, start-up funds, summerteaching, other department service, or other opportunities in compliancewith University Policy.
May engage in outside consulting work one day per week in compliancewith University Policy. This does not diminish base salary.

Start-up funding, negotiated at the time of offer acceptance, that maybe used, for example, to purchase research and/or teaching equipmentand/or software, support graduate student stipends, and support travelto attend conferences.
State-of-the-art laboratories including new satellite and dronelaboratories. The satellite laboratory has cleanroom, thermalvacuum, electronics, and assembly stations to support students,faculty, and other industry and government customers. Theflight/drone lab is a facility to manufacture and test all aspectsof UAV design and includes a 25\'x30\' motion capture room.Dual-career program and family support resources. Practical experience is paramount, but all candidates should have atleast a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering or a related field. A Masters orPhD in Aerospace Engineering or a related field is preferred. Priorexperience teaching aerospace engineering courses and mentoring andadvising students and/or early career professionals is desirable, butnot required. Candidates with prior experience in aerospace research,development, and/or engineering programs in industry or governmentorganizations are especially encouraged to apply.
