About Clinical Instructors

  INTRODUCTION

  The University of Connecticut, School of Nursing is seeking applications to fill two remaining positions for the Storrs campus out of seven (7) full-time, 9-month, non-tenure track Clinical Instructor positions at our Storrs, Avery Point, Stamford, and Waterbury campuses. Under the direction of the Director for Pre-licensure Programs, clinical faculty members are responsible for: teaching undergraduate courses, advising, supervising pre-licensure students in clinical work, apprising each student of his or her clinical performance on a regular basis, conducting evaluations of individual students clinical performance via impromptu meetings and planned evaluation conferences, evaluating students written work, and participating in campus laboratory teaching experiences. Clinical Instructors act as a liaison to clinical agencies, sharing clinical expectations and course syllabi with relevant agency staff, and addresses and initiatees action when required for student/agency issues that arise. Clinical Instructors are expected to participate in faculty and assigned committee meetings when these meetings do not conflict with planned teaching.

  UConns School of Nursing is among the top Nursing Schools nationwide. It has 68 faculty members, 599 undergraduate, and 186 graduate students, and actively engages in research in pain management, high-risk infancy, and gerontology.

  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  Masters degree in nursing.Current Connecticut RN license (valid as of the date of hire).Three to five years of clinical experience.Three or more years of experience teaching undergraduate students in clinical settings.Experience evaluating student performance in clinical training settings.Experience developing effective working relationships with hospitals, clinics, and other community partners.Completion of required health indicators (MMR titers, TB status, Hepatitis B, and others as required by clinical agencies) and CPR certification at the time of employment.Excellent communication skills and interpersonal relationship strategies.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) credentials.Three or more years of experience working as a medical/surgical RN.Experience managing and directing group clinical training for students in baccalaureate nursing programs.Experience working with students in an accelerated nursing entry program.Previous classroom teaching experience in an institution of higher ducation.Experience with a wide range of educational strategies, including virtual and in-person simulation.Current experience with direct patient care in healthcare institutions and/or community settings.Experience with telehealth technologies.APPOINTMENT TERMS

  These are 9-month, non-tenure-track positions subject to annual review. Individuals may attain eligibility for multi-year contracts after the successful completion of a probationary year and five (5) subsequent one-year appointments. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The primary campus appointment for successful candidates will be at the Storrs campus with the expectation of routine travel to clinical placement sites and occasionally travel to UConns other regional campuses.
