Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to facilitate education/training, planning, organization, implementation and evaluation of all employees' education needs and/or oversees population specific education needs; participates in the departmental performance improvement process in order to ensure competent nursing care, quality customer service and cost-effectiveness.
Essential Functions:
Plans, implements and evaluates department-specific and/or population-specific education needs based on management input, risk evaluations and learning needs assessments and develops competency programs to address gaps; develops orientation for newly hired staff in department; maintains employee education files; identifies needs for patient education; facilitates the development and availability of patient educational materials; participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of regional education programs, as needed; serves on both departmental and regional education councils
Participates in the selection of preceptors and guides the preceptors in their role development.
This position will cover the non-nursing staff in all Periop areas of SPD, OR, Endo, Pre-Post-PACU, PAT, Scheduling, Eyes, Endo MOB, Wound Care. They will be responsible for: onboarding new staff, staff development and education, staff liaison, maintain education files and staff competencies and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited surgical technology training program or equivalent experience
Certified Surgical Tech (CST) preferred, BLS required
One year perioperative experience preferred.
Proficient in basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point). Prior preceptor and/or training experience preferred.
