The office isresponsible for engineering and management of the City\'s network ofstreets, sidewalks, traffic signals, streetlights and other publicinfrastructure. The Engineering Department also oversees the operationof the Parking System and Mass Transit System. Position Purpose:Performsgraduate civil engineering work related to municipal public worksprojects. Essential Duties Essential Duties: Serves as a field engineerin directing the activities of survey parties engaged in complex surveywork for preliminary and final location of precise lines, grades, andmaterials for public works construction projects, to include all phasesof survey work necessary for construction; performs complex surveys andprepares legal descriptions. Serves as a design engineer directing theactivities of technicians and aides in preparing plans for public worksprojects. Conducts and analyses traffic studies for one-way streets,parking restrictions, traffic controls and other signing. Supervises theinspection of construction projects. Under general direction, writes andassembles specifications and prepares cost estimates for constructionprojects; prepares written reports. Serves as a design engineer andperforms complex drafting, computational and design duties and reportsin preparation of plans and specifications. Investigates complaintproblems, performs studies and prepares reports of findings withrecommended solutions. Maintains a consistent and reliable attendancerecord. Performs related work as assigned. Conditions of Employment:Occasional exposure to environment factors such as toxic agents andmachinery may pose a minor risk of injury. Qualifications MinimumQualifications: Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from anaccredited college or university. Valid Wisconsin motor vehicleoperator\'s license or ability to obtain within six months. Knowledge,Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of the principles and practices ofcivil engineering, drafting (manual and computer assisted) and design asrelated to municipal public works activities. Knowledge of the methods,materials and tools of street, sewer, transportation, and other publicworks construction. Knowledge of the principles and practices of landsurveying. Knowledge of the theory, practice and limitations of trafficcontrol devices.
