  The Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES (https://apptrkr.com/get_redirect.php?id=4934668&targetURL=https://cires.colorado.edu/) ) at CU Boulder (https://apptrkr.com/get_redirect.php?id=4934668&targetURL=https://www.colorado.edu/) encourages applications for an Associate Scientist within NOAA's Chemical Sciences Laboratory (CSL (https://apptrkr.com/get_redirect.php?id=4934668&targetURL=https://csl.noaa.gov/) ) in Boulder, Colorado. The successful candidate will work in the Tropospheric Chemistry (https://apptrkr.com/get_redirect.php?id=4934668&targetURL=https://csl.noaa.gov/groups/csl7/) program alongside a number of federal and university employees engaged in research investigating trace gases and aerosol particles and their impacts on air quality and climate. Our group develops and uses world-class instrumentation to measure these species and deploys these instruments on aircraft and at field sites.

  This Associate Scientist position is responsible for archiving the data acquired during field missions and making that data accessible to CSL scientists and outside collaborators through a user-friendly website. In addition, this position also requires writing software tools using Igor Pro and other software packages for data analysis and creating publication-quality graphs. Individuals without an Igor Pro background, but with relevant experience in math, graphics, and programming software for scientists and engineers such as MATLAB, are strongly encouraged to apply.   What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  Develop software tools for data analysis.

  Archive data from air quality and climate field missions.

  Reformat/extract/import data from a variety of sources.

  Maintain website containing data and information about field campaigns.

  Support the group with programming advice and software debugging.

  Periodic travel for several weeks at a time is required.

  What You Should Know

  This is a 2-year position with the possibility of extension based on performance and the availability of funding.

  This position will be rostered in CIRES at the University of Colorado Boulder but will be physically situated in the NOAA Chemical Sciences Laboratory located within the David Skaggs Research Center, 325 Broadway, Boulder, CO 80305.

  If you are the selected finalist, you will be required to pass a federal laboratory background clearance for site access.

  Non-US citizens without green cards may have limited building access, and require an escort in the building.

  This position does not allow for fully remote work modality.

  CIRES offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package.

  The annual hiring salary range is $53,000 to $90,000. Salary is commensurate with education and years of experience and determined based on our CIRES internal career track classification.

  Relocation expenses are available for this position following CIRES and the University of Colorados relocation processes and procedures.

  This position can accommodate a hybrid work modality in accordance with project needs.

  Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Physical Science, Engineering, or a related field.

  Experience in developing data analysis software.

  Experience in archiving and managing data.

  What You Will Need

  Ability to work in a collaborative environment with a diverse group of scientists in an inclusive laboratory.

  Ability to participate in the development of original research projects.

  Expertise in managing data best practices.

  Experience with data reformatting, extracting, and importing.

  Ability to assist scientists in the group with coding and creating user interfaces.
