Job Summary
Under direct supervision, provides sub-professional dental work assistingdentist in the care and treatment of dental patients. Functions both as dentalchair and office assistant. Assists the Dental Chair by passing instruments,preparing compounds, and assisting with taking x-rays and impressions.Ability to TRAVEL to all Denver Health dental clinics (Eastside,Westside, Southwest Pena, Montbello, Lowry, OMC, and Webb) toassist providers as needed.
Essential Functions:
Chair Side Duties:* Provides chair side assistance to the dentist in the examination &treatment of Pedodontics, Endodontics, Prosthetics, Oral Surgery, &other dental procedures.* Seats patients immediately, reviews Health History, takes x-rays withgood visibility and contrast, expected to have dental set-up ready whendentist enters room, performs special treatment procedures, organizes andhas operatory stocked with needed dental instruments & materials.(50%)Sterilization and Disinfection:* Sterilizes all dental instruments, handpieces, and counter-tops, &operatory's.* Cares for Dental Equipment according to manufactures directions.* Follows guidelines of hospital policy for infection control.(20%)Scheduling and Office Tasks* Schedules patients for re-visit appointments.* Maintains patient records and indicates the type of work done.* Reviews patient record to determine the instruments needed by the Dentist.(10%)Promotes positive interpersonal (customer) relationships with fellowemployees, physicians, patients and visitors. Treats these individualswith courtesy, dignity, empathy and respect; consistently displayscourteous and respectful verbal and non-verbal communications. (10%)Ensures confidentiality of patient information by creating and maintaining asecure and trusting environment by not sharing information learned on thejob, except when necessary in the performance of the job responsibilities orto improve a patient's care. No High School Diploma and/or No GEDWork Experience:
1-3 years of experience providing chair side assistance to a dentist in theexamination and treatment of patients RequiredLicenses:
BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart AssociationRequired andCDA-Certified Dental Assistant - DANB - Dental Assisting National Board IncRequiredKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of filling compounds such as composites and amalgam.Knowledge of patient record maintenance procedures.Knowledge of safety guidelines.Skill in placing and positioning suction tubes in patients.Excellent customer service skills.Ability to follow Dentist's instructions.Ability to schedule patients using in-house scheduling software.Ability to calm patient when necessary.
