Scope of Job
To provide journeyman level skills performing carpentry work. Responsible for using power and hand tools in the construction, maintenance, and repair of structures, equipment and articles of wood.
Description of Duties
• Performs general carpentry work in the creation, installation, maintenance and repair of buildings, floors, walls, desks, cabinets, shelves and other structures requiring carpentry skills.
• Designs, installs and modifies suspended ceilings; works with other departments in designing light layouts and location of drops.
• Designs and builds custom cabinets, shelving and furniture, such as plastic laminate, drawer glides, adjustable shelves, cabinet locks and latches.
• Installs and cuts glass in doors, windows, office partitions, fire hose cabinets etc.
• Operates and maintains power and hand tools necessary in the performance of carpentry duties such as saws, drills, planers, clamps, hammers, etc.
• Performs general cleanup after job completion.
• Assumes Foreman position in absence of supervisor and is the team leader for crew projects.
• Assists with estimates of time and materials required for jobs
• Performs other duties as assigned.

General direction from the assigned supervisor.

Direct supervision of all assigned staff.
Required Education
Completion of 10th grade.
Preferred Education
High School Diploma or GED .
Licenses/Certifications
As condition of employment this position requires the applicant to be authorized to operate a University-Owned Vehicle for Official University Business. Per University of Texas System Policy 157, applicants will be subject to a motor vehicle record check for their most recent thirty-six (36) month history. Out of State Drivers are required to submit a 36-month history MVR from their prior State of residence(s).
Required Experience
Three (3) years of experience performing stated duties.
Preferred Experience
Four (4) or more years of the above experience.
Equipment
Ability to use the tools of the carpentry trade.
Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Exposure to power equipment which could result in the injury if used negligently. Exposure to outside elements, wind, rain, cold, heat. May need to work in small confining locations.
