NY1484429 Campus Advocate needed for YWCA of the Mohawk Valley in Utica.
Job Summary:Provide advocacy and accompaniment to victims of campus sexual assault through the process developed on campuses - including navigating Title IX policies and procedures. Provide a trauma-informed approach to victims of sexual assault. Assist campus Title IX coordinators working with victims of sexual assault by assisting victims in understanding their rights as a sexual assault survivor. Assist victims with safety plans, information and referrals to campus services and/or community agencies as needed. Provide crisis intervention and supportive counseling to victims/survivors of sexual violence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:-Support victims/survivors in decision-making by providing correct information and available options regarding information and referrals; campus resources, court, law enforcement and medical.-Establish and maintain safe spaces for victims/survivors on college campuses, including organizing dedicated office hours for various college campuses to meet with victims/survivors.-Advocating that the rights of the victims/survivors sexual violence are being met.-Gather information and data pertaining to victims/survivors of sexual violence.-Advocate/accompany victims/survivors as they navigate campus resources, courts, law enforcement and medical.-Inform victims/survivors of all Crisis Services programming including shelter, groups, counseling and 24-hour hotline.-Assist victims/survivors with crime victims compensation application and follow up.-All other duties as assigned.-Available weeknights and weekends as requested.
Position Specifications:-Develop and maintain positive working relationships with college campuses, community agencies, courts, law enforcement, and medical professionals.-Attend college campus activities and community forums, connecting with student groups-Partner with Community Education Department and Title IX Coordinators to support sexual violence prevention trainings to students and staff.-Collaborate with Community Education Department and Title IX Coordinators to facilitate informational sessions, as needed-Follow up with victims/survivors through Title IX hearings, court hearings; police intervention, hospital accompaniment and status of case.-Maintain current information on laws; Title IX, policy and procedures regarding sexual violence.
Education:-AS degree in human services; criminal justice; social work or related field preferred or 2 years experience in the field of sexual violence.
Required, Specialized, or Technical Knowledge:-Acceptance and support of the YWCA Mission-Ability to interact with staff, residents and/or agencies while maintainingconfidentiality-Well organized and Flexible-Strong written and verbal communication skills-Ability to work independently with little or no supervision-Ability to work with and interact with diverse populations-Must have reliable transportation and the ability to travel-Knowledge of Microsoft computer software.
