　　State Highway Administration’s (SHA) O ffice of Materials Technology is currently recruiting for a Bridge Testing Team Leader (Transportation Engineer V) in A nne Arundel County . This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum and selective qualifications listed below by the closing date. This is a position specific recruitment. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy or function only. You will need to reapply for any future recruitment conducted for this job classification.

　　Nature of Work: The Bridge Testing Team Leader is responsible for monitoring the teams performing condition testing for complex bridge decks, tunnels, culverts and other structures that would determine their life expectancies. This information is crucial to the design engineers for the purpose of charting a course of action to rehabilitate a structure or replace it. The team conducts testing for SHA, MDTA, MPA and other county municipalities. This position directly supervises two bridge condition testing crews, which include permanent state employees and consultant Bridge Testing Technicians. This position also plans and schedules projects according to their priorities and square footage.

　　Qualifications

　　MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

　　Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.

　　Experience: Five (5) years of experience in professional engineering.

　　Selective Qualification: Two and a half (2 ½) years of the required experience must have involved engineering designs such as asphalt, concrete pavements, or structural designs on complex highway engineering projects.

　　*This statement contains a selective qualification, which is more focused in scope than the minimum qualifications for this classification. Selective qualifications are utilized when the position requires specific or additional bona fide occupational qualifications (i.e., knowledge, skill, or abilities).

　　PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

　　The ideal candidate will possess the following:

　　• Excellent computer skills

　　• Excellent written and oral communication skills

　　Notes:

　　Additional work experience in professional engineering, or in technical engineering at the journey level or above, may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education.

　　Possession of a master’s degree in engineering may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

　　Persons currently registered as Professional Engineers in the state of Maryland, or in a state with comparable requirements, are considered to have met the education requirements.

　　Candidate must possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the state of Maryland.
