The Associate Lab Manager performs evaluations on all PJI proprietary and non-proprietary products and ingredients (flour,
cheese, meat, sauces, etc.) for quality compliance and product development and supports the QA team on product and packaging related projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Perform chemical, physicaland organoleptic evaluations on various samples following defined procedures and protocol
Manages relationship with internal (and/or third party) lab by managing day-to-day needs and communicating schedule or contact updates, conducting product trainings, communicating evaluation and SOP updates, and creating holistic monthly lab reports
Develop and implement new written lab procedures and update existing lab procedures
Document and report results. Analyze data and report trends. Develop forms for recording results
Order, receive, and prepare products as needed for testing and evaluations
Develop and maintain efficient lab and kitchen operations by ensuring equipment is managed, set up, adjusted, and maintained with sufficient supplies on hand; research and recommend new lab equipment; schedule equipment calibrations
Ensure lab complies with Good Laboratory Practices for safety and cleanliness and maintains cleanliness of kitchen and cooler areas.
Conduct formal product evaluation/cuttings with key team members within the organization
Supports QA Product Managers as neededon crisis support related activities, which may include internal lab testing and sensory evaluations
Supports Sr. Commercialization Manager in spec writing and updating, onboarding new suppliers and independently managingassigned projects
Interact and communicate effectively with QA peers, management group and supply partners
Education, Experience & Certifications
BS in Food Science (preferred) or related field
Minimum of 3-5 years food industry laboratory experience required, preferably in the pizza or QSR industry
Kitchen experience preferred
