To quote a popular saying at TNC, "you'll join for the mission, and you'll stay for the people."WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHERAs the Associate Director of Grasslands - Minnesota , you will direct grassland priorities and provide leadership and support to the Tri-State Chapter (MN, ND, SD,) by planning, directing, and implementing grassland programs across the State of Minnesota. You will develop, advance, and implement conservation priorities, employ a full range of traditional and innovative conservation tools to increase the pace and scale of grassland conservation. This includes coordinating with other Minnesota grassland partners working in the prairie to determine priorities, develop opportunities, broaden funding sources, complement work areas and strengths, adjust to external challenges, and build support for policy and cross-site learning. Key responsibilities include: Administering TNC's grassland programs supported by the State of Minnesota's Outdoor Heritage Fund (OHF.) This coordinating with TNC's OHF program administrators, lead proposal writing, serve as a point of contact with OHF staff, provide presentation/ testifying, guide project implementation, and ensure accurate reporting. Directing the OHF Prairie Recovery Program which includes: addressing critical threats to prairie systems, establishing strong partner collaboration, and fostering cross-site learning among a state-wide prairie conservation community. Managing a budget to complete projects, negotiating and contracting with vendors, assisting with budget development, and meeting fundraising targets. Fostering support and implementing of Minnesota's Prairie Plan; working with partners on plan revisions/updates as necessary. Managing a team that includes Prairie Recovery Specialists and Prairie Biologists. Collaborating closely with internal stewardship colleagues to set and accomplish grassland-related programs' goals. Providing guidance and support on prairie issues in Minnesota such as threatened and endangered species collaborations, permitting process, renewable energy policy and practice, Ensuring program compliance with internal policies and external requirements. Under minimal supervision, making independent decisions based on analysis, experience, and context. Experience in partnership development with non-profit partners, community groups and/or government agencies Experience negotiating. Experience explaining conservation practices to technical and non-technical audiences. Knowledge of prairie land management and conservation best practices.
