Summary:
Supports all activities of the winemaking process. This role encompasses responsibility for influencing the growing of grapes (raw materials stage) through the quality of wine delivered to the consumer.x
What you will do:
Responsible for tasting wines to conduct evaluation and recommendation of treatments to improve wine quality.
Participates with all winemaker’s and operations staff in delivering the highest quality wine to the consumer across all brands and wine varieties.
Manages wine process operations as assigned including, but not limited to management of: wine temperature, sulfur dioxide, and acidulation.
Supports all winegrowing, winemaking, brand winemaking, and wine processing operations at assigned location(s).
Conducts Fining Trials and manages certain winemaking and wine processing trials and experiments, including reporting results.
Responsible for the completion and success of the trials and experiments.
Participates in management of grape receiving and wine production operations during harvest, as assigned.
Participates in certain aspects of the wine grapes: grape assessment, harvest, and analysis.
Maintains wines within internal “gold standard” specifications from grape to bottle.
Participates in wine tasting at all levels of the winemaking process.
Contributes to the continuous improvement of the winemaking processes and procedures.
Maintains satisfactory attendance, to include timeliness.
Responsible for understanding and complying with applicable quality, environmental and safety regulatory considerations. If accountable for the work of others, responsible for ensuring their understanding and compliance.
Supervisory Responsabilites:
Trains and mentors lab technicians and interns.What you will need:
High school diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate.
Bachelor's degree plus 1 year of Enology, Winemaking, Viticulture or Chemistry experience.
Candidates for this position must have a valid driver's license and a safe driving record. Required to obtain a California driver’s license or appropriate state driver’s license within 30 days of hire.
Required to lift and move equipment weighing up to 35 pounds.
Required to possess the vision necessary to judge wine and brandy color.
Computer skill requirements include: Basic MS Word and MS Excel.
Skilled in reading, analyzing and interpreting general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.
Skilled in writing reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
Skilled in effectively presenting information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
Skilled in applying mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
Required to travel to company offices, sites, and/or meeting locations for onboarding, training, meetings, and events for development, department needs, and business delivery up to 5% of the time, with or without reasonable accommodation. This may be in addition to travel requirements, if applicable, as listed in this job description.

What will set you apart:
Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Enology, Fermentation Science, Food Science or Microbiology plus 2 years of winemaking experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.
Computer skill requirements include: Intermediate MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, and MS PowerPoint.
Skilled in applying advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations and permutations.
Experience with defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts and drawing valid conclusions.
Experience with interpreting an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and dealing with several abstract and concrete variables.
Experience with working under different climatic conditions.
Experience with following established procedures to perform tasks that are somewhat difficult in nature, requiring frequent evaluation, originality or ingenuity.
Knowledge of the viticulture practices associated with the most popular grape varieties.
Knowledge of the winemaking equipment, processes and procedures at assigned location.
Experience with the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of particular field of specialization.
Compensation:
Hiring Salary Range Posted: $65,400 - $98,000
Actual compensation paid within the range will be determined by factors such as the education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
