Position Summary
The Department of Gender, Women, and Sexualities (GWS) Studies atMetropolitan State University of Denver invites candidates to apply for atenure-track appointment as Assistant Professor of Gender, Women, andSexualities Studies to begin Fall 2024. Of special interest are GWS scholarswhose research and teaching focus on trans/queer studies, with a secondaryfocus on decolonial and/or critical race theory frameworks, health,mutual aid, practices of care and/or social justice organizing. Thecourses to be taught include core courses such as GWS 1030 Introduction toSocial Justice and Decoloniality, GWS 1550 Introduction to TransgenderStudies, GWS 1200 Multicultural Study of Sexualities and Genders, GWS 2100Women of Color, GWS 2200 Feminist and Queer Research methods, and upperdivision courses in the candidate's area of expertise. Faculty are on9-month contracts with optional summer teaching. The successful candidate willteach both online and on campus classes, advise and mentor undergraduatestudents, engage in scholarly activities, and provide serviceresponsibilities to the department, college, university, profession,and commun
The department is housed in the Gender Institute for Teaching and Advocacy(GITA), a unique office on the Auraria campus. Position Responsibilities:
Assistant Professor responsibilities in lude:Teaching 24 credit hours per academic year. Teaching involves activities thatimpart knowledge and critical thinking skills to students. It includespreparing for courses assigned, assessing student progress, conductingcurricular review, holding office hours, communicating with students in atimely fashion, and integrating technology as appropriate. Teaching mayinclude classroom, online, online/hybrid instruction.Advising students. This involves staying informed of University and Collegepolicies while assisting students in assessing career options, choosing adegree program, successfully completing their senior thesis and degree,and obtaining employment or graduate school placement.Engaging in service to the department, college, profession, and/or community.Pursuing and maintaining an active research agenda, publishing per thedepartmental guidelines, and presenting at professional conferences.
Required QualificationsPh.D. in Gender, Women and Sexualities/Feminist Studies or relatedinterdisciplinary field. ABD candidates are welcome to apply, however, thedegree must be conferred prior to the start of the fall 2024 semester.Higher education teaching experience in Gender, Women, and/orSexualities Studies
