The University of Chicago invites applications for tenure-trackfaculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of DataScience. Appointments may be made in either the Department of ComputerScience or the Department of Statistics, jointly between Statistics andComputer Science, or jointly with another department in the University.

The University of Chicago is implementing an ambitious plan for researchand education in Data Science and AI including new academic programs atthe undergraduate and graduate levels and new cross-disciplinaryresearch programs. The Data Science Institute(datascience.uchicago.edu) is a collaboration among the Department ofComputer Science (cs.uchicago.edu), the Department of Statistics(stat.uchicago.edu), and other units on campus. Topics of interestinclude foundations and applications of artificial intelligence, machinelearning, large language models, data ethics and privacy, datavisualization, societal impact of data and AI, safe and trustworthy AI,data engineering, scalable data systems, and high dimensionalstatistical inference, and we encourage applications from allresearchers focused on developing the foundations and practice of DataScience as an emerging field. The Data Science Institute focuses onresearch that advances fundamental theories at the intersection of datascience, artificial intelligence, statistics, and computing in thecontext of real world and domain-specific problems. The Committee onData Science(codas.uchicago.edu) is the home of data science educationprograms. The larger data science community at the University of Chicagoincludes the Toyota Technological Institute at Chicago (TTIC), thePolsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Fermilab and ArgonneNational Laboratory.

Members of the faculty are expected to lead research programs that willproduce significant contributions to a field, and teach and mentor atthe undergraduate and graduate levels.

Qualifications

Completion of all requirements for a Ph.D. in Data Science, AI, ComputerScience, Statistics, or a related field is required at the time ofappointment.
