Qualifications: At least 21 years of age or older, be a Registered Nurse in this state with a current license and have at least 2 years experience in geriatrics. Determine the kind and amount of nursing care needed to meet the needs of the resident and to achieve the objective of the nursing home. o Develop a nursing organization structure. o Assign responsibility and delegate authority. o Carry on continuous evaluation of needs and services as concerns nursing services and resident care. o Work with supervisors to continually upgrade and improve nursing care to residents. o Develop a nursing care plan for each resident and ensure that his plan is reviewed and revised as necessary. Assuring that a nursing care plan is established for each resident and the plan is reviewed and modified as necessary; but not less often than quarterly. o To participate in the selection of prospective residents in terms of the nursing service they need and the capability of the facility to supply the needed service. o Fill out necessary reports for the admittance, transfer, and discharge of residents. o Participate in quarterly reviews. Fill out nursing care section of quarterly reviews and/or supervise nursing staff in this area. o Work with consultants, dietary, pharmacist, etc. and as necessary or possible implement recommended charges. o Serve on the Pharmaceutical Service Committee, Infection Control Committee, UR Committee, Resident Care Committee and any other committees that may exist or be formed by this facility. o Participate in development of the Resident Care Plan. o Set standards for qualifications of personnel. o Recruits, interviews, and evaluates applicants when administrator advises. o Assign personnel, define duties, and interpret policies of the nursing home and of the nursing service. o Arrange for and participate in new staff orientation. Maintain a file on each employee, noting dates and subjects completed. o Arrange for and participate in in-service educational programs monthly. o Encourage and facilitate further study and experience-gaining activities for professional nurses. o Assist charge nurses in carrying out their assignments. o Participate in department head meeting and coordinates services. o Assist in preparing performance evaluations on personnel. o Prepares work and time schedules. Designates in writing a charge nurse for each shift on the time sheet seven days a week. o Review complaints and grievances and makes report to the administrator. o Develop job descriptions for nursing service personnel. o Participate in policy planning for personnel. o Participate in policy planning for nursing service and resident care. o Review policies at least on an annual basis for updating. o Interpret the objective, goals, and functions of the nursing department to other departments o Hold regular monthly fire drills, one per shift, per quarter. Maintain record of results and performance. o Use equipment and supplies as directed and be cautious of waste. o Meet with purchasing agent to discuss expenses and make recommended changes. o Represent the nursing home and nursing service in professional and community activities. o Promote effective working conditions and relationships with the administration, medical staff, other departments, volunteers, and agencies affiliated with the nursing home. o Implement resident care policies. o Other duties as directed by the Administrator, Director of Nursing, and Medical Director. o Participate in the selection of prospective residents in terms of nursing services they need and nursing competencies available. o Establish procedures to assure that the residents medical record is completed in a timely manner. o Will be on call to facility when not on duty. o Assures that all residents are treated in accordance with the Residents Bill of Rights. o Make recommendations for promotions and demotions and issues disciplinary action to nursing department of the nursing home. o May as necessary be equired to use own vehicle for job related activities. o Must participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) objectives. o Stay updated on industry and legislative changes.
