  Context of the Job:

  The Assistant Director of Intercultural Student Engagement, Student Diversity & Inclusion (SDI) is a member of the Office of Institutional Equity team and serves as the primary lead in student diversity, equity, and inclusion leadership engagement. The position of Assistant Director is to advance student learning, growth, and application of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice. The Assistant Director will be responsible for advising undergraduate and graduate student organizations focused on diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice. The Assistant Director will support students’ intercultural learning through the implementation of educational workshops, trainings, and programs. In partnership with the functions of the Center for Intercultural Engagement, the Assistant Director will further a diverse, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all students.

  The Assistant Director will also work in close partnership with campus stakeholders to implement the mission, visions, and goals of the Office of Institutional Equity, Division of Student Life and University to create a diverse, welcoming, and engaging environment for students, as well as providing educational opportunities and resources to advance student learning and intercultural engagement. Reporting to the Director of SDI, the Assistant Director serves as an active member of the Student Diversity & Inclusion unit.

  Major Responsibilities:

  Advise undergraduate and graduate affinity (e.g., race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity and/or expression) and diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice-based student organizations and councils, including but not limited to HOLA, Lavender Programming Board, and Asian & Pacific Islander Student Association.

  Support student organizations (i.e., graduate, and undergraduate) housed in the Center for Intercultural Engagement, including but not limited to managing the student resource room located in the Center for Intercultural Engagement.

  Develop and facilitate undergraduate and graduate student related diversity, equity, inclusion, social justice, and intercultural related training and educational programs.

  Develop and provide support resources and student leader training for undergraduate and graduate students around race, ethnicity, socioeconomic class standing, first-generation status, citizenship status, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, and additional social identity group categories and their intersecting identities and backgrounds.

  Support the Social Justice Peer Educators’ program and advisement of peer educators.

  Build and implement strategies for outreach, advocacy, and diversity, equity, and inclusion resources for student leaders to foster a sense of belonging, community, and build an inclusive campus culture.

  Develop, implement, and maintain assessment, communications, and advising strategies, to effectively advocate and support students of color, LGBTQ+ students, Undocumented and DACA students, and first-generation students.

  Advocate on behalf of students by building and maintaining direct connections and rapport with undergraduate and graduate students, staff, and faculty to better the experiences related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice on campus; primarily with but not limited to the Office of Institutional Equity and the Division of Student Life.

  Serve and participate on campus committees to share and embed student diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice experiences.

  Directly supervise undergraduate and graduate student employees.

  Perform other related duties as assigned.

  Qualifications:

  Master’s degree with a minimum of four years of higher education administration, administrative and leadership experience related to advancing diversity and inclusion initiatives in a complex organization.

  Ability to develop, implement and assess strategic initiatives that advance an affirming and inclusive culture.

  Exemplary diversity facilitation and advising skills with students, faculty, and staff.

  Experienced in designing curriculum and plans for diversity training and programs.

  A record of accomplishment as a student advocate and a champion for student success.

  Knowledge of diversity, social justice, and intercultural development theories, frameworks, and concepts; in addition to understanding of complexities within diversity and inclusion content and process.

  Outstanding interpersonal and community relations skills, and the ability to establish and maintain collaborative and effective working relationships with students, staff, faculty, and administration.

  Effective leadership, team building and collaboration skills.

  Excellent and effective oral and written communication skills.

  Ability to take initiative and responsibility for projects and development of services.

  Skills in independent judgment to plan, prioritize, and organize a diversified workload with attention to detail.

  Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community and

  rapidly changing technical environment.
