Position Summary
The Assistant Director of the Grants Management Office supports the Executive Director of the Grants Management Office ( GMO ) and leads and supervises GMO staff performing pre and/or post-award activities for sponsored projects in assigned departments and/or units.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or universityExperience:
Five years of related grants and contracts experience in an academic setting
Demonstrated knowledge of sponsored awards administration
Highly detail oriented, executes with precision and accuracy.
Strong interpersonal and communicative skills;
Proficiency in multi-tasking, time management, and in establishing and organizing priorities
Experience supervising others
Preferred Qualifications
Education:
Master’s degreeExperience:
Seven years relevant research administration experience in an academic setting
Certified Research Administrator
Three (3) years supervisory experience

Job Duties
Description of Job Duty
Monitors workload distribution and redistributes tasks, as appropriate.
Provides guidance to team members, as appropriate.
Understands and applies federal and MSM rules in the management of effort allocation for individuals compensated whole or in part from sponsored awards.
Applies costing rules and regulations to sponsored projects.
Analyzes information and formulates conclusions.
Ensures strong levels of customer service to faculty and departments/units being served.
Addresses issues that violate performance levels with internal GMO staff and with departments and/or faculty.
Lead to coordinate inter-team meetings to facilitate collaboration between the pre-award and post-award teams.
May perform pre-award and/or post-award activities in support of the GMO .
May perform pre-award activities related to the preparation and submission of sponsored proposals, including budget preparation and reviewing applications to ensure compliance with sponsor’s guidelines and MSM’s policies and procedures. May also assist with annual and interim progress reports.
May perform post-award activities to include setting up payroll distributions, requesting subcontracts and working with other participant’s institutions, gathering approval for and issuing PANs (Provisional Account Numbers), monitoring award budgets and expenses, preparing award finance reports for PIs, preparing and routing no cost extension requests, preparing CAS exceptions for approval, submitting journals and redistributions, reviewing subcontracts and associated purchase orders, subcontract invoices, preparing interim Financial Status reports for Grants & Contracts, reviewing effort reports and facilitating certification processes, preparing final Financial Status Reports for sponsors, perform activities related to the closing of awards, and requesting inactivation of FOAP .
Performs related responsibilities as required.
