  Job Summary

  This position is located on the Utah Asia Campus ( UAC ) in South Korea and exists to provide campus leadership and strategic vision in the creation, implementation, and assessment of a comprehensive set of programs and services designed to enhance students’ participation in the life of the campus. The Assistant Dean of Students is responsible for the supervision of professional staff in the Student Leadership & Involvement Center, International Student Programs, Residence Life & New Student Programs, and the Career & Internship Development Center. This position coordinates resources and outreach efforts to connect students to all campus involvement opportunities and promotes leadership development. The Assistant Dean will serve as the advisor to UAC student government. This position will report directly to the Asia Campus Dean of Students/Executive Director at the University of Utah Salt Lake Campus.

  Responsibilities

  Serve as a member of the Utah Asia Campus Student Affairs leadership team providing direct input into the direction, leadership, development and assessment of a comprehensive student affairs division.Lead, supervise, and direct department personnel within this area, including but not limited to hiring, training, and providing work direction to ensure that staff are skilled and available as needed. Provide professional development to the staff within the scope of this position.Oversee all student life initiatives for the campus, including residential life, student leadership, large scale student programming, student organization funding, and student government.Serve as the chief student advocate within the university community, maintaining effective lines of communication with students and articulating students’ needs to the University’s administration.Develop and implement programs and services promoting student success.Instruct a leadership course (LDRSP2020 or LDSP4100). Prepare curriculum and instruction for leadership course. Serve as the UAC Leadership Studies Minor liaison.Facilitate the development and implementation of a comprehensive student involvement agenda, including student clubs, volunteerism, sports and recreational opportunities, lectures, campus-wide events, and other methods for engaging students on campus.Serve as the advisor for Asia Campus student government.Chair leadership and planning committees related to student affairs, alumni outreach and commencement.Operate the Student Leadership & Involvement Center ( SLIC ), which is the student involvement hub for the campus.Develop time-sensitive internship and career development service delivery.Work closely with the Executive Director to oversee student conduct policies and processes including incident reporting, behavioral assessment protocol and responses.Coordinate and update emergency plans for campus and serve as the primary contact for the 24-hour emergency on-call coverage system, with reporting to the Executive Director.Co-supervise the Asia Campus Mental Health Counselor with the Executive Director.Remain knowledgeable of all programs offered through the University and respond or refer appropriately to student inquiries particularly regarding: housing, counseling services (referrals), disability services (referrals), and student activities.Maintain familiarity with university student information systems and learning management systems in order to access student information to provide assistance as required.Maintain and evaluate data on student retention and work with academic program coordinators to improve retention efforts based on best practices. On a regular basis provide reports of data collected to the Executive Director.Manage the budget for the Assistant Dean of Students area.Work as an Asia Campus team member to provide seamless service to all students.Promote student involvement through active and up-to-date website, social media and other methods.Other duties as assigned by the CAO and ED.Minimum Qualifications

  Minimum Qualifications:

  Master’s degree required; Doctoral degree strongly preferred.

  At least three years of related experience in student affairs administration, preferably at Director level or above.Strong administrative, management and leadership skills.Demonstrated commitment to diversity, global education and culturally appropriate interventions in higher education.Experience in administering Student Affairs programs in an international setting preferred.Type Benefited Staff
