LEP provides students with comprehensive programming that includes thefollowing components: academic counseling, tutoring, social-skillbuilding, executive functioning support, and student leadership opportunities.
The mission of the LEP is to support learning and neurodiversity by providingstudents opportunities and resources for personal growth, academic skillbuilding, and connection.
Position Summary
The LEP Academic Counselor will provide academic support to a caseload ofstudents by meeting with each student for an hour each week and beingavailable during normal work hours by phone and email. The Academic Counselorwill work with the student on areas of student development related toself-awareness, self-advocacy, self-determination, and accountability;as well as assisting the student in navigating the 10-week quarter;connecting with the appropriate resources; planning, organization, timemanagement. The Academic Counselor will develop and maintain positive andproductive working relationships with students assigned to their caseload andas appropriate, with their families. The Academic Counselor will demonstratea commitment to the principles of Inclusive Excellence through involvement andparticipation in university/division-wide projects and initiatives, anddemonstrate a desire to continue to learn and grow by taking advantage ofprofessional development opportunities.
During the summer months the main responsibility of this position will beeither developing and implementing the LEP's multi-year transition programor supporting our social skills and leadership program.
This position will also assist with updating marketing materials, thewebsite, providing LEP updates for the area newsletter, assistance withproducing, implementing, and reviewing the results of the yearlyassessment including the writing of the annual assessment report.
This is a 12-month full time, benefitted position. This position reports tothe Associate Director of the Learning Effectiveness Program.
We are hiring for 2 positions, one that will focus on transition programmingand one that focuses on social skills building programming.
Essential Functions
Academic Learning - provide academic learning and development strategies toassist an assigned caseload of students with learning disabilities, ADHD,history of learning differences, on the autism spectr m, etc.
Education and Training - Actively engage in professional development at theuniversity, division, and departmental levels. Conduct trainings on UDL,executive functioning, time management, organizational skills, workingwith students with learning differences, learning styles, stress andanxiety management, etc. Attend conferences for professional development andto represent LEP and the University.
Programming - Develop and implement programming for LEP students aroundtransition and/or social skills building including: Creating resources andwriting curriculum to support students. Designing, managing and implementingLEP student events and workshops. Hiring, training, and supervisingstudent leaders. Providing engagement opportunities for LEP students.
Campus Collaboration - Work with faculty and staff educators to createequitable access to learning by sharing strategies and resources on how towork with student with learning disabilities, ADHD, history of learningdifferences, on the autism spectrum, etc.
Administration - Inspire notes entered within 24 hours; assessment includingdata collection, surveys, analyzing results and writing for the finalreport; contract renewal completed; answer emails and voice messages within 24
