  Your Mission

  As the Assistant Dean of Human Resources for the Jeb E. Brooks School of Public Policy, you will be a key leader in advancing a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and well-being for our community of 175 faculty and staff. Reporting to the Vice President of Human Resources and the Associate Dean for Finance and Administration, your responsibilities will encompass strategic HR leadership, academic HR leadership, employee relations, compensation, talent management, recruitment, professional development, department leadership, information management, financial management, and university HR strategy.

  Lead and shape the HR function for our community of 175 faculty and staff, driving the design and implementation of programs, policies, and practices for effective workforce recruitment, development, and retention.You'll serve as a senior advisor, as a key member of the senior leadership team, providing leadership for organizational change and development, strengthening organizational effectiveness, climate, and employee relations within a dynamic academic environment.Represent the school on matters of university policy, oversee payroll operations, and participate in various forums and meetings.Embrace a leadership role that fosters a culture of belonging and psychological well-being, recognizing and valuing the contributions of each team member.   What You Will Do as the Assistant Dean for Human Resources for Cornell's Jeb E. Brooks School of Public Policy:

  Strategic HR Leadership: Collaborate with the leadership team to align HR strategies with the school's vision and mission. Establish trust and provide strategic HR solutions that improve business outcomes.Academic HR Leadership: Act as a liaison on academic personnel matters and ensure compliance with University policies. Represent the school in HR initiatives and programs.Employee Relations and Climate: Foster a positive work environment, advise on conflict resolution, and ensure compliance with HR policies. Facilitate the employee assistance process and conduct exit interviews.Compensation: Oversee compensation and performance management programs. Develop strategies to recruit, retain, and reward key employees while maintaining equity.Talent Management, Recruitment, and Professional Development: Lead initiatives for attracting and retaining a diverse workforce. Provide guidance on talent acquisition, development, and succession planning. Drive best practices in search processes.Department Leadership: Supervise HR staff, ensure compliance with policies, and assess operational effectiveness. Provide coaching and counseling for staff development.Information Management and Reporting: Oversee HR data accumulation, storage, and reporting. Develop tools and reports to facilitate financial, operational, and HR decisions.Financial Management: Assess the financial impact of HR decisions and contribute to the annual budget process.University HR Strategy, Planning, and Management: Represent the school on HR advisory and planning committees. Advocate for school mission and communicate business needs.Other Position-Related Responsibilities: Participate in projects, serve on committees, and engage in professional development activities.

  What You Will Bring:

  Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management with 7-10 years of HR experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.Proven success in HR management.Experience in organizational development and change.Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and well-being.Strong leadership, communication, and supervisory skills.PHR or SPHR certification, or ability to obtain within two years.
