  Educational Foundations, Organizations, and Policy - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (23009401) University of PittsburghSchool of EducationAssistant, Associate, or Full Professor (Open Rank Tenure/Tenure-Stream) Position with a focus on Higher Education and Qualitative Methods Position: Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor (tenure/tenure-stream)Appointment: Eight-month, full-time, tenure stream appointment; starting Fall 2024Description: The Department of Educational Foundations, Organizations, and Policy invites applications for an open rank (assistant, associate, or full) professor from outstanding candidates who conduct critical, rigorous, theoretically grounded qualitative research on higher education institutions, community college leadership, and/or college student development. This person would use interdisciplinary approaches and critical methodologies and theories to examine power relations in race, class, and gender inequities, to name a few, in higher education. We seek a collaborative colleague who employs innovative and critical approaches in their teaching, advising/mentoring of students, and scholarship. Further, we seek a scholar whose work connections to our existing Higher Education programming and the growing number of critical scholars across the School of Education. The University of Pittsburgh offers MEd, EdD, and PhD Higher Education degrees. Working collaboratively, the faculty have actively sought to advance equity and justice through teaching and learning, advising and mentoring of students, engaged collaborations, and scholarship. We seek to continue our momentum by having a scholar join the Higher Education faculty to: (1) advise master's and doctoral students in higher education; (2) teach online, hybrid, and in-person courses; and (3) contribute to curriculum design and development of certificate and micro-credential programs across the Department of Educational Foundations, Organizations, and Policy. This position is responsible for:1.     Developing a strong research program that builds scholarly knowledge and informs the regional, national, and global conversations about higher education, including examining and proposing solutions to educational inequities within higher education;2.     Contributing expertise to qualitative research methodology and teaching courses in research foundations, data collection methods, analysis methods, and data representation, in addition to teaching core courses across the Higher Education MEd, EdD, and PhD programs;3.     Contributing expertise to the development of online graduate certificates in community college leadership and justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) which will stack into the existing MEd in Higher Education;4.     Developing and teaching Higher Education and Qualitative Methods courses, including facilitating School-wide engagements in a qualitative methods sequence and the development of a graduate certificate program in research methodology;5.     Engaging in antiracist work that assesses and poses potential solutions to the social, economic, political, and/or educational challenges that higher education professionals must address; and6.     Partnering with local, regional, national, and/or international institutions, leaders of higher education, and professional organizations.The candidate would join a vibrant community in the School of Education, at a time of great excitement, synergy, momentum, and action, particularly in relation to our explicit commitment to equity, justice, and innovation. As a School, we are committed to determining sustainable ways to disrupt long-standing patterns of inequity and injustice in education. To that purpose, we invite applicants who have deep qualitative knowledge and experience engaging in robust analyses of pressing issues related to higher education and who investigate ways to interrupt inequitable educational practices through their teaching, research, an community-engaged activities. QualificationsRequired:1.     Earned doctorate in higher education, student affairs, or a closely related field by July 1, 2024.2.     Demonstrated commitment to equity and justice in alignment with the Pitt School of Education Mission-Vision.3.     Potential for or established record of scholarly publication, including peer-reviewed journal publications that matches hired rank.4.     Demonstrated experience in teaching and significant expertise in qualitative methods.5.     Potential for or demonstrated record of securing external funding.6.     Potential for or demonstrated record of excellence in university-level teaching in higher education.7.     Potential for or demonstrated excellence in advising and mentoring students. Preferred:1.     Professional work experience in higher education or student affairs.2.     Expertise teaching qualitative research methods.3.     Experience with or potential for innovation and excellence in university-level teaching and using technology for online and blended format classes.  Salary & Rank: Competitive salary will be commensurate with qualifications at the hired rank. Application Process: Review of applications will begin January 8, 2024 and will continue until the position is filled.
