Job Description Summary
Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) consist of Physician Assistant (PAs)and Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs). APRNs may practice inthe role of Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) or Nurse Practitioner (NP).Please refer to the Clinical Nurse Specialist job description.
The Advanced Practice Provider is responsible for providing care to bothinpatients and outpatients. In collaboration with the physician, assistswith the diagnosis of medical conditions, planning and implementation ofinterventions, as well as evaluating patient responses. Serves as aresource for staff and students on issues and strategies in themanagement of patients and is expected to participate in scientificclinical research and publication.

Job Description
All Advanced Practice Providers:
Clinical privileges for the individual advanced practice provider shallbe made by the Board of Directors upon recommendation of the ExecutiveCommittee of Active Medical Staff.
Advanced Practice Registered Nurses:
Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) may engage in activitiesthat normally constitute the practice of nursing without credentialing,provided they have the preparation, knowledge and experience necessaryto properly execute the practice. Medical diagnostic, therapeutic andmanagement functions will be instituted under medical supervision usingpractice guidelines or protocols developed by the Institute.
Scope of practice for the nurse practitioner is subject to thedefinition scope as identified in Section 3 of the Illinois Nursing Actof 1987 (225 ILCS 65/3), and will be adjusted as the current practiceact is amended.
Principal Responsibilities
The APP will:
Elicit a history and physical examination, assisting the attendingphysician in establishing a diagnosis, implementing interventions,prescribing medications, therapies and diagnostic tests, andevaluating patient responses to therapies under the direction of aphysician.Assess patients using physically and technologically derived data,including the evaluation of diagnostic test results, and documentresults in the patient record.Assemble a medical database that includes health history, history ofchief complaint, and physical examination of selected patients,documenting the findings in the patient record.Assist physician with ordering medical consultations, therapies, andinterventions including, medications, diagnostic tests, respiratorycare, nutrition, and fluid and electrolyte support.Perform and document diagnos ic and therapeutic procedures based onthe needs of the specific patient population as determinedcollaboratively with the physician and as approved by theCredentialing Committee.Evaluate patient responses to disease processes and therapeuticinterventions, and determine the effectiveness of care and the needto alter the plan of care.Present selected patients\' assessment, diagnosis, and plan of careduring medical rounds.Lead or participate in patient team conferences and family/teammeetings, documenting the discussion in the patient record, andcommunicating the outcome to the interdisciplinary team.Provide information and support to patient and families,facilitating communication between patient and members of the healthcare team.Collaborate with the nurses, nursing supervisors, therapists andmanager to implement and evaluate holistic patient care delivery.Perform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interestof the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.Works on-call shifts for the practice, as assigned and/or approvedby the Medical Director.In addition to the essential functions outlined above, the APP must:
Maintain all appropriate licensure and certification.
