About AIRCRAFT ELECTRICIAN (TITLE 32)

  Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT ELECTRICIAN (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D0418000 and is part of the IL AASF 1, National Guard. Responsibilities As a AIRCRAFT ELECTRICIAN (TITLE 32), WG-2892-10, you will perform Aviation Unit Maintenance (AVU) and limited Aviation Intermediate Maintenance (AVIM) on aircraft electrical systems for fixed and/or rotary wing aircraft. Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list: Assist with identification and requisition of tools, parts, equipment and bench stock required. Assist authorized firefighters in the performance of fire/crash/rescue duties as required. Select, operate, maintain and repair specialized test equipment, measuring equipment and common shop equipment such as multimeters, vacuum tube voltmeters, tube testers, oscilloscopes, insulation testers, vary drives, magneto test stands, and electrical equipment test stands. Calibrate and adjust amplifiers, control boxes, and other equipment that vary voltage, resistance, frequency and load for analyzing various characteristics of electrical shop and test equipment. Maintain a working knowledge of electrical and mechanical principles as applies to avionics systems to include a working knowledge of wiring diagrams. blueprints, technical publication and schematics. Perform travel as may be required in the accomplishment of assigned duties and the organizational mission. Perform on-the-job training as required and evaluate training effectiveness. Select, study, utilize and update technical manuals, TWXs, newsletters, MWOs and files in support of functional area of responsibility. Assist in other functions within the component repair shop in the accomplishment of mission requirements. Functionally test, troubleshoot, inspect, adjust, align, calibrate and repair the entire range of aircraft electrical systems to insure maximum operating efficiency. Repair complex power control and warning systems such as, master control panels, analyzing units, master caution panels, voltage regulators, supervisory panels, AC/DC generators, starters, inverters, indicating instruments, linear actuators and utility system control units. Fabricate, repair and replace wiring harness, cannon plugs and connectors, electric motors and modifications as directed by higher authority. Requirements Conditions of Employment NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement. Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service. Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation. May be required to successfully complete a probationary period. This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position. Participation in direct deposit is mandatory. Qualifications AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of consideration for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code § 709), will be in the following manner and sequence: The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG. The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees. The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible. The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership. The FIFTH area of consideration will U.S. Citizens. Military Grades: Enlisted Only UH60 Qualified GENERAL EXPERIENCE: MUST possess experience or training which has provided a knowledge and skill in locating and tying in the electrical systems with the aircraft armament, electronics, and instrument systems; adjusting and calibrating the components of the various electrical systems; reading and interpreting blueprints, wiring diagrams and schematics. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WG-10 Level - MUST possess experience which includes 18 months of experience or training installing, maintaining, repairing and modifying electrical systems and major substation components of electrical system; diagnosing malfunctions and determining remedy when complex relationships exist among different electrical system circuits requiring knowledge of all electrical units and systems; making electrical repairs that require the use of precision measuring equipment and common hand tools; and in the setup and operation of computerized multiple circuit analyzing equipment in manual, semiautomatic, or automatic mode to run existing and new (not fully debugged) diagnostic programs to test and analyze aircraft electrical circuitry and interconnecting cabling of systems such as navigational computers, radar, and related equipment and to repair discrepancies. In order to be considered qualified, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in Federal service. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
