Position Summary
The Advanced Project Engineer is an engineering leadership role in projects supporting design of new, optimization of existing production equipment, as well as the specification through commissioning of new production equipment through the use of Lean tools such as 2P/3P. This is leadership role to influence and organize manufacturing activities through startup and sustainment. The ideal candidate will be a technical expert in engineering with similar products and equipment. You will be the primary engineering contact for maintenance and production. Engineering and technical responsibilities will include CAD design of machine modifications and layouts, hands on trouble shooting and commissioning, understanding of control logic, and understanding of machine safety devices and their proper application. Additional responsibilities will include project management and leadership of small to large projects.
What you will do
Evaluate and design the packaging process to create and/or modify automated equipment solutions to meet customer needs through the use of Lean tools.
Provide conceptual engineering design thru final engineering design for CAR-CAPEX project approval, financial justification, procurement, installation, and startup of integrated automated systems.
Development of custom equipment designs and specifications.
Lead all communications of designs and/or specifications with vendors, contractors and/or Engineering firms to receive/analyze/reward equipment and/or installation bids.
Manage all “internal” OEM vendor efforts relating to capital projects including sourcing vendors, documentation for vendor approval, creating purchase requisitions, issuing PO’s, and approving term payments.
Packaging line operation / design / procurement / installation / startup, including cost estimation, justification, budget, schedule, purchasing terms, final design reviews, ongoing construction reviews, factory acceptance testing, installation, site acceptance testing, start-up, training, troubleshooting, and documentation.
Provide oversite and/or guidance for machine upgrades and/or rebuilds to meet customer needs and/or marketing requests for new container packaging.
Provide onsite management of contractors for equipment installations.
Provide onsite management of startups and facilitating the required communications and tasks between engineering, safety, quality, manufacturing, and maintenance to successfully complete and transition projects.
Lead ongoing/daily troubleshooting and problem solving with strategic/critical thinking through stakeholders to resolve problems and/or maintain or potentially increase productivity.
Provide ongoing/daily engineering solutions for safety, quality, and/or continuous improvement objectives using knowledge of machine guarding, machine ergonomics, machine capability and operating line efficiency.
Provide ongoing/daily/long term engineering solutions for water quality for sterile and aseptic systems utilizing DI and RO Systems.
Provide ongoing/daily leadership and guidance to line operators by providing equipment training, communicating management expectations, tips for repeatability, and ideas/feedback on future conceptual designs.
Provide ongoing/daily leadership and guidance to maintenance mechanics by assisting with trouble shooting, providing training of machine sequences/functions, and training with changeovers for “first time right” operation.
What you will need to be successful
Engineering Bachelor's Degree. Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial preferred.
10+ years of experience in project management, chemical processing, and/or equipment/packaging line design in a manufacturing environment preferred.
Work experience in a regulated industry (cGMP, Pharma, FDA, MDSAP, etc.) is also highly preferred.
