Legrand has an exciting opportunity for aPackaging Engineer, Advanced Manufacutringto join theData Power and Control Divisionin Canonsburg, PA.
This individual will be leading packaging improvement efforts to support productivity and environmental impact. They will become the subject matter expert on packaging materials, processes, and technology to ensure our packaging delivers an outstanding customer experience while protecting products throughout the shipping environment and advancing Legrand’s sustainability goals. In addition, they will support collaborating with Product Engineering, Applications Engineering, R&D, and Operations to develop, implement, transfer, and establish manufacturing processes required to meet the needs of the operation for both existing and new products.
ThePackaging Engineerutilizes and supports individual, team, and quality/process improvement efforts, advocates for clearly documented product designs capable of robust/cost-effective/repeatable manufacture (DFM, DFA), and assures manufacturing processes and supply chain meets requirements for process capability, safety, customer service, reliability, and cost. Ensures processes incorporate best practices and creates supporting documentation for repeatability.
What Will You Do?
Establishes standard packaging practices across our sites to reduce freight damage while meeting our circular economy goals.
Lead packaging efforts to collaborate with internal and external parties to innovate our packaging process to meet the changing needs of the business.
Work with cross-functional teams to improve and implement a process to correctly calculate freight charges during the quotation process.
Work with our compliance team to accurately report our packaging metrics.
Identifies opportunities within the facility and customers for returnable packaging.
Analyze engineering drawings and specifications of the product to determine the physical characteristics of the item, special handling and safety requirements, and the type of materials required for packaging.
Develop manufacturing process plans to meet safety, ergonomics, process capability, service, quality, and cost. Present process concept proposals and implement approved processes. Promote lean manufacturing, and participate in and/or lead process improvement initiatives.
Work with production employees to ensure production rates are achievable and repeatable by capable operators for new products; adapt existing processes with lessons learned to improve efficiency.
Develop and document manufacturing methods for R&D projects. Plan and establish the sequence of operations to fabricate and assemble parts or products to promote efficient
utilization. Draft and design layout of equipment, materials, and workspace to illustrate maximum efficiency.
Resolve emergent engineering-related production barriers. Provide technical assistance to operations as necessary to meet the needs of the business. Does what is required to safely get processes back online with minimum production loss.
Provide guidance to product design engineering, manufacturing engineering, and production team members on issues related to product manufacturability. Provide feedback to new product development projects, product line transfers, new process acquisition/implementation, or process improvement.
Qualifications
Required :
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering. Mechanical or Industrial Engineering preferred
Experience:
Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in a hands-on, shop floor-oriented manufacturing engineering capacity.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
Knowledge of packaging materials, technology, processes, and regulations.
Strong organizational and time management skills, close attention to detail, and ability to effectively handle multiple priorities. Independent judgment is required to plan, prioritize, organize, and accomplish a diversified workload.
Must be highly collaborative and able to work in a team-based environment promoting an environment that encourages cohesiveness, and fosters trust and open communication with team, peers, and all business partners.
Must possess strong analytical skills and the ability to identify trends and establish proactive corrective actions. Must be able to apply principles of logical and scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
Must possess excellent project management skills, including demonstrated ability to develop and manage a project plan, establish priorities, work to deadlines, and control a number of projects at various stages of work.
