Job Description
The Admissions Counselor I, under general supervision, identifies, recruits, and contributes to increasing the population of admitted, enrolled, and underrepresented students.
This position may pay more than the minimum proposed salary listed above, depending on experience and/or qualifications of the selected candidate.
Responsibilities:
Reviews admissions applications. Collaborates with the different departments concerning applications. Works directly with applicants to resolve extenuating circumstances, complaints, and appeals of admissions denials. Collaborates with International Admissions.
Maintains knowledge of current federal, state, and institutional policies, procedures and regulations pertaining to graduate admissions.
Maintains graduate admissions-related records and databases.
Provides excellent customer service and a prompt response to any questions or concerns raised by graduate students, faculty, and staff, and is well-equipped with extensive knowledge and expertise to provide accurate and helpful assistance to all those seeking their assistance.
Participates in recruitment activities, such as campus visits, application evenings, and designated area initiatives aimed at increasing graduate enrollment. Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
No prior experience required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Two years of experience in an Admissions Counselor I assignment or a related unit.
Experience with data-base management (Banner, Degree Works and ARGOS) and IT integration and solutions.
Experience with using various software applications (preferably Office 365 suite, Word, PPT, Excel, Zoom, TEAMS, and OneNote).
Experience with evaluating college transcripts.
Experience with college recruitment and presenting informational workshops, seminars on specialized topics related graduate admissions.
Registrations, Certifications, and Licenses:
May require a valid driver’s license.Special Requirements:
Applicants with equivalent experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree may be considered. One year of the related experience is the equivalent of one college year. Applicants being considered for the equivalency must have four years of related experience to meet the equivalency in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree plus the minimum required years of experience. Applicants being considered for the equivalency must have a total of six years of experience.Other Requirements:
