Description
SUMMARY: Performs skilled level clerical, mathematical and computer work as pertains to the department function to ensure efficient office management. Work performed under minimum supervision. Performs receptionist duties.

Assists in operating the landfill scales.
Assists with maintaining and researching files.
Codes, copies, and tracks all expenditures.
Verifies and balances bills and statements.
Balance cash and credit transactions against daily scale receipts.
Assists in the preparation of monthly and annual reports.
Processes and maintains time records for full- and part-time staff in an accurate and timely fashion.
Composes and types letters and other correspondence from rough draft, copy or marginal notes.
Checks forms and reports for accuracy, completeness, and conformity with established procedures.
Orders office supplies.
Answers telephones and responds to telephone inquiries.
Deals effectively with walk-in visitors.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
EDUCATION: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by computer and clerical courses.
EXPERIENCE: Four (4) to five (5) years of clerical and computer experience performed in similar, professional environment.
OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge and use of standard office practices, procedures, and clerical techniques. Skilled in the use of business English, spelling and mathematics. Ability to type/keyboard accurately at a reasonable rate of speed. Skilled in computer operations using various programs. Ability to file alphabetically and follow difficult oral and written instructions. Ability to compose correspondence and other materials independently or from verbal instruction, marginal notes, or drafts. Skilled in the use of standard office equipment. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers. Ability to greet and assist the general public and possess excellent telephone etiquette.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND/OR REGISTRATIONS: Possesses a valid driver’s license.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Requires moderate physical effort working almost exclusively with lightweight materials (up to 30 pounds) including but not limited to walking, talking, stooping, sitting (for extended periods), kneeling, bending, reaching and gripping. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities. Office work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g., business office, light traffic). Position requires weekend work.
