The ideal candidate will understand the role of craft in sustainable design.Adjunct faculty members will employ a variety of strategies to foster student artistic development, learning and discussions. This includes maintain proper course-related records, evaluate student work and provide students with feedback. Each adjunct faculty member is responsible for effectively teaching students in the assigned classroom or remote settings. Each adjunct faculty member is responsible for effectively implementing the mission of the Department of Design. Responsibilities may include teaching days, evenings, nights, and weekends, with the potential for online only, in-person only, or a combination of both.We are currently hiring for the following course(s) in the Spring 2024 Term (April 1 - June 15):FASH 343/543: Tailoring: Provides intensive investigation of materials and construction techniques used in tailoring. Uses a combination of garment production methods, including a strong emphasis on couture practices.Essential FunctionsTeaching classes in undergraduate and graduate fashion designTeach required number of credit hours per quarter based on their contract.Teach studio, lecture, and/or practicum courses per their contract.Plan and provide instructional experiences that reflect an understanding of the philosophy, objectives, and curriculum of the program.Evaluate student achievement of curricular objectives/outcomes.Maintain communication with the program director regarding any course or student issu s.Perform other similar duties as assigned.Required QualificationsMinimum of a Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design or a related field; advanced degree will be considered.Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in tailoring and garment construction, with a proven track record of creating high-quality, customized garments.In-depth knowledge of various textiles, fabrics, and materials commonly used in tailoring.Ability to guide students in selecting appropriate materials for different garment types.Proficient in a wide range of construction techniques, with a focus on both traditional and modern tailoring methods.Demonstrated expertise in pattern making, draping, and sewing.Strong emphasis on couture practices, including intricate hand-sewing techniques, precision fitting, and attention to detail.Up-to-date knowledge of current trends and innovations in the fashion industry.Awareness of sustainable and ethical practices in garment construction.Previous experience teaching tailoring or fashion-related courses.Ability to effectively communicate complex concepts and techniques to students with varying skill levels.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to foster a positive and engaging learning environment.Ability to provide constructive feedback and guidance to students.Familiarity with Blackboard Learn or similar learning management system.Preferred QualificationsActive interest in circular/responsible design.1 year of teaching or professional experience.Special Instructions to the ApplicantPlease make sure you upload your CV/resume and cover letter that indicates your strong areas of expertise when submitting your application.Advertised: Jan 12 2024 Eastern Standard TimeApplications close: Feb 12 2024 Eastern Standard Time
