Accountant Salary:
$67,724.80 - $106,558.40 Annually
Senior Accountant Salary:
$76,752.00 - $120,681.60 Annually
The City of Irvine seeks a talented, forward thinking and seasoned professional to join the City as an Accountant. The Accountant will perform professional accounting work and financial transaction recording and reporting, with an emphasis in account reconciliations and review.
The City of Irvine seeks a skilled and customer service focused Senior Accountant to perform complex professional accounting work that includes financial transaction recording and reporting, general ledger activities, preparation of year-end financial reports, and the analysis of various financial records. Reporting to the Finance Administrator, the Senior Accountant will also play a significant role in preparing the City’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR), as well as provide leadership in preparing other annual reports.

Your Impact
Accountant
Coordinate and participate in general ledger and subsidiary accounts posting, balancing, and reconciling. Reconcile accounts to back up detail and/or independent sources. Complete monthly reconciliations such as bank reconciliation, payroll, and benefit reconciliations.
Analyze records and prepare financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
Examine accounting documents to ensure accuracy of information and calculations. Review accounting records for errors and omissions, and make correcting entries. Prepare journal entries.
Prepare required reports for county, state, and federal agencies. Conduct research and analysis of financial information. Reconcile related data for submission. Prepare notes, tables, and charts for inclusion in reports.
Support consultants and departments on grant reporting, monthly grant drawdowns, and the reviewing and filing with various government agencies.
Prepare on demand analysis and reports.
Assist in developing automated financial reports and in documenting system operations, and continuously analyze system to develop more effective procedures and reports. Identify system deficiencies, making recommendations for changes.
Provide support for audits. Conduct research and provide analyses for independent auditors.
Serve as a resource to other City staff, and provide advice and technical assistance related to accounting procedures and computerized system processes. Coordinate the timely processing of accounting cycle tasks. Provide recommendations for improvements in accounting procedures.
Maintain current knowledge of generally accepted governmental accounting procedures, the City's automated fiscal systems and applications, and applicable state and federal regulations and guidelines
Senior Accountant
Evaluate, develop, and monitor fiscal practices and controls in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and fund accounting practices.
Perform monthly and year-end closing duties, capital project year-end data analysis, and prepare journal entries and periodic reconciliations of general ledger, job ledger, subsidiary accounts, and bank statements.
Develop financial system reports and data summaries for distribution to departments and auditors, as well as other reports on a variety of financial matters.
Play a lead role in preparation of year-end audits such as the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR), single audit of Federal Funds, and related financial reports/audits.
Maintain advanced and complex accounting records including the general and subsidiary ledger chart of accounts.
Maintain positive working relationships with City staff and the public. Represent the Administrative Services Department in a highly professional and competent manner as a committee/task force participant and in joint meetings with other departments.

Accountant Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
One year of professional government accounting experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Requires the ability to utilize word-processing, spreadsheet and database software applications.
Senior Accountant Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
Three years of government accounting experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
