The goals of City Tech’s CUNY 2x Tech program, housed in the Computer Systems Technology (CST) Department, include improving the career readiness of graduates, the number and percentage of students completing paid internships or apprenticeships, and the number and percentage of graduates who secure high-paying jobs in computer science-related fields upon graduation. Our strategies include working with industry partners to update degree programs to meet current and future workforce needs, particularly in cybersecurity and data science; expansion of existing collaborations within the college and externally; integrating equity, career exploration and readiness throughout the curriculum, and supports such as academic/career advisement, tutoring and mentoring.

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Advisor will:

Provide mandated academic/career advisement and registration assistance for a cohort of students enrolled in the Computer Systems Technology department’s bachelor’s programs, in collaboration with the STAR Center.

Support students' persistence and career readiness and expand student exposure to careers and the courses and steps needed to prepare for timely graduation and employment, in collaboration with the college’s Professional Development Center.

Help students prepare for internships and other opportunities to build their experience in and exposure to tech workplaces, leading to an increased number of paid internships completed in college, again in collaboration with the college’s Professional Development Center.

Promote connections for students to supportive services, such as tutoring, the Student Success Center, and the Professional Development Center, to increase persistence in the major.

Serve as a resource for staff and faculty on student advisement issues.

Work with students to overcome impediments to registration and graduation and provide mandated registration/advisement appointments.

Ensure that Computer Systems Technology students are on track to participate in relevant CUNY 2x Tech-related programs.
