The School of Art and Design, New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University is seeking a Visiting Assistant Professor of Art History for a full-time, sabbatical replacement position in non-Western art for the 2024-2025 academic year. Appointment begins in August 2024.
Applications are invited from art historians with primary expertise outside of Europe, such as Asia, Africa, the Middle East, colonial Latin America, or the Indigenous arts of the Americas or Oceania. All historical periods and cultures in this broad area are open to consideration. Interest in material culture is especially welcome. Responsibilities include teaching mainly undergraduate courses, from first-year to senior level. Load is 12 credit hours per semester, equivalent to a 3/3 teaching load. The salary range for this position is $49,000-$52,000.
Qualifications:
Required: PhD preferred, ABD considered, in Art History or related field with teaching experienceResponsibilities:
Engage with art history divisional service
Commit to the university's goals of mentorship, inclusion, and intersections
Teach 24 credit hours per academic year
Serve as a model of professionalism and act as a resource for students within the teaching-learning environment
