  Summary About the Position: This position is with the 200th Military Police Command, 200 Mission Support Element, located in Fort Meade, Maryland. Responsibilities Serve as a Victim Advocate (SHARP) for Army Brigades providing professional and comprehensive advocacy services to victims/ survivors of sexual assault and sexual harassment. Inform individuals of reporting options, their rights and responsibilities, as a victim. Ensure victims of sexual assault receive all needed guidance and emotional support during administrative, medical, investigative, and legal procedures. Provide support to victims before, during and after trials. Conduct interactive training workshops/seminars to victims, community agencies and the organization. Conduct assessments with clients to determine required needs and evaluate risk levels. Maintain working relationships with military, state, and local action agencies to facilitate immediate response and accurate reporting of sexual assault incidents. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. QUALIFICATIONS: This position has a basic requirement that you must meet in addition to the experience required below. The basic requirement is as follows: Basic Requirement: A. Degree: Successful completion of a bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in behavioral or social science, or a degree in a related discipline appropriate to the position, such as Psychology or Sociology. OR B. Combination of education and experience: that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. OR C. Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. In order to qualify for this position you must also meet the Specialized experience: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing advocacy services to victims of sexual assault/ sexual harassment; recognizing the need for professional intervention and referring to appropriate services; conduct trainings/seminars on sexual assault/sexual harassment; and compile and submit SHARP program reports, data and evaluations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: behavioral or social sciences. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Attention to Detail Integrity/Honesty Interpersonal Skills Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07). Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required. This position involves duties that are sensitive and confidential in nature. The selectee's background will be checked against records maintained by the following prior to appointment and, as appropriate, on a recurring basis while employed in the position: The Department of Justice National Sex Offenders Registry, Army Criminal Investigation Command/Crime Records Center, previous employer references, State and Local Police, Official Personnel Folder, including adverse action files, Army Inspector General, Army Military Human Resources, Army Substance Abuse Program. The selectee must successfully complete SHARP Training Course(s) IAW SHARP Program requirements and obtain DoD certification within initial 6 months of employment. Failure to complete training and obtain the DoD certification within prescribed timeframes may result in removal from the position and/or Federal service. All Army SHARP Professionals that must obtain and maintain a Defense Sexual Assault Advocate Certification Program (D-SAACP) as a condition of employment will be required to submit to a State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) Check is required for all states of residence in the previous five years and enrollment in the Continuous Evaluation (CE) program.
