The Tailor for the Clothing Initial Issue Point (CIIP), Ft Moore, GA is responsible for the constructing, altering, repairing, and/or modifying garments for customers, based on their specifications, needs, and preferences. The Tailor f its, marks, alter and repair clothing, takes measurements from or fits garment to customer to determine type and extent of cutting required, and marks garment accordingly. Maintains adequate stock of supplies, equipment and working area, and may supervise activities of sewing machine operator or other related workers. This position requires 4 years of experience.
Responsibilities
Major Responsibilities:
Performing a variety of minor and major alterations and repairs on men's and women's military tailored uniforms in accordance with Army regulations and standards of acceptance of supported units. Requiring the use of all-purpose sewing machines and some special-purpose machines such as button attaches and buttonhole makers, darning machines, blind stitches, single and double-needle flatbed and feed-off-the-arm machines, and thermal patching machines.
Measures, fits, and marks tailored coats, trousers, overcoats, raincoats, and other articles of military uniforms on individuals. Determines appropriate alterations necessary to fit uniforms properly in accordance to Army regulations, unit standard operating procedures.
Takes special measurements and prepares worksheets for individuals requiring custom tailor-made uniforms.
Takes measurements and makes alterations on uniforms. Alterations include lengthening and shortening trousers, lengthening and shortening coat and jacket sleeves, lengthening and shortening skirts, and adjusting waist bands.
Repairs personnel clothing such as trousers, coats, jackets, and shirts by replacing, darning, and re-stitching of worn parts.
Sews name tags, insignias, patches, service stripes, buttons, and uses snap fastener to replace snaps.
Performs a sequence of pressing lays and operates two or more presses at one time, according to set pressing procedures for military uniforms and/or fabrics requiring dry cleaning.
Operates presses in this manner according to instructions and sequence of lays until garments are finished. Performs routine maintenance on machines and/or hand tools. Responsible to keep work area orderly and clean.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Environment:
Maybe required to work an uncommon tour of duty including nights, weekends, and holidays under pressure and strenuous conditions. Work is conducted in an office and field environment. Work is performed in shops or other enclosed areas which are adequately lighted, heated and ventilated.
The employee is subject to cuts, bruises, needles punctures, scratches and other minor injuries or irritations from handling sharp tools and treated materials.
The work involves exposure to dust and lint from fabrics, fumes and odors from glues and cleaners, and noise from sewing machines.
Will be required to work 40 hours per week, with weekends as needed.
Work is conducted in an office environment, that can be hot, fast pace and busy.
Physical Requirements:
The work requires standing at worktables to mark, measure and cut materials; stooping, bending and kneeling to fit individuals; and sitting for long periods to machine and hand sew the uniforms.
Continued use of arms, hand and fingers are required to position the clothing and use various hand and machine tools.
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

High School Diploma
Must be able to clear a pre-employment background check
Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening.
This position requires 4 years of experience.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Tier 1 level clearance.
Experience:
The candidate must be able to perform or work with the following,
Alter articles according to alteration ticket and in accordance with Army Regulations for proper fit.

Verbal instructions, and locate defects
Repairs article, including ripping of seams and matching sizes and colors of replacement parts
Operator may operate automatic sewing machines
Utilizing knowledge of threading machines
Winding bobbins, adjusting tension
Oiling parts
Knowledge of the routine maintenance of the equipment and skill in recognizing when replacement parts are needed or when equipment is malfunctioning.
Knowledge of and skill in working with a variety of military uniforms and fabrics.
Must know how to press all types of fabrics.
Knowledge of and ability to work from sketches and diagrams of individual patterns containing data on dimensions, locations, and sizes of the numerous pieces and design details of the garments
