Ferrous Processing and Trading (FPT) is one of North America’s premier processors, buyers, sellers, and recyclers of scrap metals and is a key supplier to North America's metals industry. FPT, a wholly owned business of Cleveland-Cliffs, has an immediate opportunity for a Railcar Switcher on the day shift at the Cleveland location. The Switcher is responsible for switching railcar cars between multiple tracks and communicating to locomotive engineers by two-way radio.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Ensure that railcars are clean of debris inside and loaded properly
Inspect railroad tracks for damage and/or defects
Ensure that railroad tracks are clean of debris and weather-related obstruction
Throw railroad track switches for staging railcars
Inspect railcars for defective parts such as couplings, air hoses, journal boxes, and hand brakes and notify the supervisor of defects or malfunctions
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma/GED. Three to six months related experience and or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Excellent customer oral and written communication skills
Problem-solving, analytical, critical thinking, and decision-making
Collaborative; builds and works with teams
Ability to coach and mentor
Pre-employment background, physical, and hair drug screen required
