  Position Summary

  Provide direction and strategic leadership for development of design and engineering standards, compliance programs for natural gas pipeline infrastructure and non-nuclear electric infrastructure. Responsible for the comprehensive design and engineering standards considering system goals and objectives to achieve the clean energy transition and the needs of our customers. Strategically builds executable system standards for detailed engineering/construction to balance risk, system reliability, resource adequacy, and safety. Routinely interacts with Operations leadership and ISP leaders to identify pathways to success and provide a feedback loop. Fosters a culture of cross-collaboration, accountability, affordability, system adequacy, service reliability and safety. Ensures collaboration and a strong working relationship with the operational leadership of XE distribution, transmission, energy supply and gas business operations areas across service territories.

  Essential Responsibilities

  Business Strategy- Leads the creation and review of design standards for operational implementation that deliver a safe, affordable, reliable, and resilient energy system. Evaluate forward looking system needs and developing technology for viability. Build and execute a testing program to integrate new system hardware into design standards. Lead an internal Design Standards Committee. Design, maintain, and evaluate Compliance Programs utilized within Operations to enable zero violations of compliance requirements from regulatory entities. Provide highly proficient expert testimony as needed.

  Operational Excellence - Operate a rigorous and consistent review, update, and feedback process to evaluate company design/engineering standards and compliance programs. Compliance program development results in zero violations of regulatory agencies requirements. Lead and coordinate various operations committees to ensure high connection and collaboration between the ISP and Operations.

  People and Culture - Responsible for attracting, recruiting, and retaining a highly motivated and engaged team. Establish clear performance expectations so employees know how their work contributes to the jurisdictional and corporate objectives. Foster a culture of personal accountability and environment that promotes/supports employee safety and individual development.

  Relationship Management - Establish and maintain healthy and successful relationships with key Operations leadership, Operating Company, technology innovation team leadership, other jurisdictional and corporate peers, to ensure, effective information sharing, learnings and best practices implementation. Build and maintain external relationships in common areas of expertise.

  Minimum Requirements

  Bachelor's Degree in engineering or Construction Management, Master's in Business Administration preferred or a combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge.

  Minimum of 10 years system design utility experience, with at least 5 years middle-management experience.

  Demonstrated technical and engineering leadership skills and ability to implement projects that cross organizations, business units and professional disciplines, supporting a cultural change and building business acumen.

  Strong written and verbal communication skills required.

  Demonstrated knowledge of gas, electric distribution, transmission, and energy supply business area functions and understanding of regulatory requirements and their business and operational implications.

  Non-Bargaining

  The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $189,500.00 to $240,166.66 per year

  Pay and benefit packages may vary based on position. Some employees are under collective bargaining agreements, which determine the benefits they will receive. If the information conflicts with the terms of the written plan documents governing the plan, the plan document will control. Benefit plans are subject to change and Xcel Energy has the right to end, suspend, or amend any of its plans, at any time, in whole or in part.
