  Department: Facilities - 111

  Primary Purpose :

  Supports the Facilities staff by providing professional skills and advanced experience related to troubleshooting, servicing, and repairing all heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning as well as refrigerator/freezer systems associated with the buildings. Also assists the Facilities staff in providing a safe, comfortable environment for all employees.

  Essential Functions :

  Services, repairs, maintains, and manages the operations of all HVAC/R and facility related mechanical equipment including commercial boilers, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, and Central Plant equipment.

  Performs diagnostics and maintenance work on facilities mechanical and refrigeration equipment.

  Assists in implementing procedures and schedules of computerized preventive maintenance programs for all HVAC/R equipment.

  Assists in the implementation of safety and good housekeeping standards by keeping mechanical rooms clean.

  Monitors and operates building management software.

  Installs and/or modifies HVAC/R equipment and systems in consultation with the Engineering teams.

  Assists the Facilities Design & Const. group with coordination of HVAC/R mechanical projects both internally and with outside contractors.

  Assists with and installs refrigeration systems for walk-in coolers and freezers.

  Installs remote air conditioning systems.

  Helps train new HVAC/R technicians on proper troubleshooting, repairs, and preventative maintenance on all mechanical equipment owned by ARUP.

  Provides technical assistance for other HVAC technicians in the Facility Operations department.

  Responds to emergency HVAC/R requests and other facility related issues reported by ARUP personnel.

  Works effectively with all levels of management, contractors, government officials, and ARUP personnel.

  Maintains appropriate logs and records for mechanical equipment including water treatment.

  Individuals must have knowledge of the geography of the community.

  Individuals must comply with ARUP’s drug free workplace policy and will be subject to random screens. ARUP policy requires pre-employment, post-accident, and random drug screens.

  Other duties as assigned.

  Physical and Other Requirements :

  Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.

  Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

  Mobility: The person in this position needs to move between work sites and inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.

  Effective communication skills.

  PPE: Biohazard laboratory environment that requires use of personal protective equipment in accordance with CDC and OSHA regulations and company/departmental policies.

  ARUP Policies and Procedures: To conduct self in compliance with all ARUP Policies and Procedures.

  Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  Climbing: Using hands and feet to pull one’s self upwards, such as using a ladder.

  Fine Motor Control: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.

  Vision: Having close, far, and peripheral visual acuity to perform a variety of tasks such as make general observations of depth and distance.

  Color Vision: Perception of and ability to distinguish colors.

  On Call: Ability to respond to emergencies after normal working hours and on the weekends.

  Age: Must be 21 years old

  Valid Driver’s License: 1) No moving violations within the previous two years 2) No alcohol/drug-related violations on record with the Driver’s License Division

  Qualifications

  Education

  Required

  High School Diploma or Equivalent or betterLicenses & Certifications

  Required

  Driver LicensePreferred

  HVAC JourneyExperience

  Required

  Journey level HVAC mechanic with State or Union certification plus four (4) years of commercial HVAC experience as a journey level mechanic

  Or ten (10) years of specific HVAC/Refrigeration experience including which may include chillers and boilers in a large, commercial, industrial, or governmental building or institution, will be accepted in lieu of a State Certified program or Union apprenticeship.

  Certified to purchase and handle various types of refrigerant

  Proficiency in fitting, soldering, and brazing of refrigeration and copper piping

  Ability to read and interpret blueprints

  Proficient with troubleshooting and operating HVAC controls

  Preferred

  Experience in setting up and managing a computerized preventive maintenance program

  Experience using Staefa and Talon mechanical control systems

  Experience with installation, maintenance, and repair of commercial refrigeration equipment.
