About Software Engineer II

  Our team spans the lowest layers of the Windows Operating Systems (OS) and the platform firmware, contributing to silicon enablement technologies like OS power management, device enumeration, resource arbitration, interrupt management, Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) and Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) firmware.  As a Software Engineer II on the team, you will have the opportunity to work on products and features that showcase the best of Windows and Microsoft technologies.  The team is uniquely situated at the junction between the hardware platform and system software providing great opportunities for innovation and collaboration.  Our team has a number of dependent teams, internal and external, which allows you to work with a diverse set of individuals across Windows, Microsoft and the industry. If you are a systems developer, there is really no other group to work in!

  Responsibilities

  In this position, you will work with a team of engineers to design, implement, and maintain features across a variety of hardware, ranging from Azure to Internet of Things (IoT), which will be leveraged by the rest of the OS or platform firmware.  You will have the opportunity to develop design skills as you drive innovation in the hardware platform.  You will work closely with internal and external partners to ensure that software abstractions are flexible while remaining simple. You will improve and monitor telemetry to assess the health of the product in both pre-release as well as released software, using this data to drive improvements into the quality of the product. Efficient communication and cross group collaboration skills will be needed to find solutions that are favorable to multiple teams. 

  Qualifications

  Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  OR equivalent experience.

  1+ year experience with multithreaded programming, operating systems, device drivers and/or firmware.

  Other Requirements:

  Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.

  Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

  This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.Additional or Preferred Qualifications:

  Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  OR equivalent experience.

  Background in hardware architecture internals.

  Efficient communication and collaboration skills.

  The aptitude and motivation to learn low-level details of operating systems and firmware.

  Familiarity with hardware and software debugging

  Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,300 - $182,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $120,900 - $198,600 per year.
