  Job Description:

  The incumbent in this position will provide direct instruction in computer technology and adaptations which allow blind and visually impaired individuals to succeed. Incumbent will provide technology training to division and contractual staff as needed and will also provide training in the use of adaptive software, including the introduction of the computer keyboard and the use of various programs such as windows, word, internet, and email.

  Examples of Work:

  The employee must be productive under tight time frames, balance multiple and competing priorities and maintain goal directed behavior and performance expectations sometimes under stressful conditions.

  The employee must interact courteously with others.

  The employee’s performance and behavior must demonstrate consideration of the work load concerns of others and must not negatively affect the productivity and morale of the unit.

  Attendance is an essential function of this position.

  Provide direct instruction in computer technology and adaptations to blind and visually impaired clients.

  Provide training to division employees and contractual staff as needed.

  Provide instruction and training in other specialty programs and portable notetakers as needed.

  Conduct initial evaluations of clients referred for training to determine level of skills, knowledge and readiness for technology training.

  Maintain records of goals, participation in class and progress of each student. Prepare periodic student progress reports.

  Develop lesson plans that reflect daily objectives needed to meet established goals.

  Maintain supplies and maintenance of equipment, keeping inventory in good repair and purchased as necessary.

  Attend workshops and conferences for professional growth, participate in public education as needed and serve as a resource person for staff, clients and the public.

  Recommend ancillary services such as audiology, low vision and physical therapy, which would enhance the client's program.

  Assist in training volunteers and interns assigned to the Center.

  Perform other duties as required.

  Minimum Qualifications:

  A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course of study in a social, behavioral or rehabilitative science, education or visual disabilities and two years of professional experience involving direct services to rehabilitation clients.

  A master's degree from an accredited college or university with major course of study in one of the above areas can substitute for one year of the required experience.

  Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  Knowledge of the theories and practices in vocational rehabilitation guidance and counseling.

  Knowledge of interviewing techniques.

  Knowledge of medical and psychological aspects of disability groups.

  Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communication.

  Knowledge of employment resources and vocational rehabilitation resources.

  Knowledge of methods of compiling, organizing and analyzing data.

  Knowledge of the principles, methods and techniques of teaching the visually disabled.

  Knowledge of technological devices for visually impaired persons.

  Ability to compile, organize and analyze results.

  Ability to provide counseling and guidance in the area of career planning.

  Ability to communicate effectively.

  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

  Ability to work independently.

  Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.

  Ability to review medical, social and psychological records of the visually impaired and to make recommendations for further examinations.

References and file reviews from previous employment will be verified to determine suitability.

  The successful candidate must be able to pass a Level II Background screening.
