About Senior Boiler Room Technician (Watch Engineer, Boiler Room Operator)

  Job Description:

  Operates and maintains high pressure steam boilers, emergency generators, and chillers. Tests and submits reports documenting all established parameters.

  Job Responsibility:

  Operates and maintains heating, cooling, ventilation, and any other auxiliary equipment associated with the power plant.Operates Fire Alarm and associated equipment as directed.Observes various meters and gauges and takes appropriate action for safe operation.Starts, stops, and switches over boilers as appropriate.*Cleans and repairs boilers, regulates feed water and condensation pumps, lubricates pumps and equipment.

  Follows preventive maintenance schedule.Performs soldering and brazing operations.Performs work such as repacking valves as needed, changing piping, cleaning, and painting in the boiler room as needed.Lubricates boiler compressors, pumps, and related parts regularly.Cleans inside of boiler walls, as needed.Repairs and/or replaces broken or worn parts, valves, meters, levels, etc.Tests and ensures proper water chemistry of the boilers.Keeps a log on each boiler and cooling tower water samples.Assigns proper chemical treatment to boilers.Reports major repair needs and unsafe conditions to the Utilities Manager.Keeps boiler room clean and orderly.Performs bi-hourly rounds of boilers and BMS systems. Logs all parameters for review and repair as needed.Checks temperature and pressure gauges periodically.Assists in maintaining and repairing HVAC controls and associated equipment to maximize efficiency levels in all environmentally controlled areas.Performs urgent corrective routine and requisitioned repairs of electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems as required.Maintains legible records, reports, logs, statistics, and files as required.Performs other duties as directed by the Utilities Manager and or other Management.Performs related duties as required.

  Physical Demands:

  Will be standing and walking for prolonged periods of time. Will be lifting and moving heavy materials and equipment weighing approximately 100 lbs.

  Job Qualifications:

  Associate's Degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.

  3-5 years of relevant experience,required.

  Ability to use all standard mechanic tools and equipment including, saws, grinders, pipe threaders, levels, common electrical testing devices, ladders, power and hand tools.

  Graduate of an accredited trade school, apprentice training program, or equivalent; military or maritime training program in the operation and maintenance of high-pressure boiler and/or centrifugal or absorption refrigeration machine operation, preferred.

  OR New York Department of Buildings High Pressure Boiler Operating Engineer license, preferred.

  OR New York Fire Department Refrigeration Machine Operators license, preferred.

  OR United States Coast Guard Marine Engineers license, preferred.

  Minimum of three (3) years' experience in the operation of a power plant or industrial plant including experience with high pressure boilers and centrifugal or absorption refrigeration machines, preferred. Hospital experience, preferred.

  OR minimum of three (3) years' experience in all aspects of building repair and maintenance including at least one (1) year of suitable experience assisting in the operation of the power plant, preferred. Hospital experience, preferred.

  Read, write, and speak English to understand and interpret written and verbal instructions, and toprepare forms and work logs, preferred

  Must have or be able to obtain Nassau County cutting and welding certification upon hire.

  The salary range and/or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.When determining a team member's base salary and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget and internal equity).

  The salary range for this position is $45.28-$50.23/hour
