  This opportunity entails being responsible for the gathering of geological and geotechnical information as well construction inspection of geotechnical elements. This position performs research, plans and directs subsurface investigations, logs borings and interprets geologic profiles. This position also includes field inspection of elements such as earthwork, rock slopes, drilled shafts, piling, micro piling and retaining walls. As a member of the team, you will contribute to the successful delivery for a diverse range of projects for HNTB’s clients. Position is primarily a field position with extensive local and domestic travel. Position researches local geologic conditions and prepares subsurface exploration plans. Assists with the development of subsurface investigations and management of drilling, sampling, and laboratory testing subconsultants. Tracks schedule, quantities and budgets. Completes log borings in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System. Log rock core with lithology, and engineering characteristics. Identify and map landslides. Identify and map geologic structure. Interpret and draft subsurface profiles.

  What You'll Do:

  Under direction of more senior Scientist, follows clearly established methods to assist in conducting research, gathering basic scientific information and data, and conducting and assisting in field investigations among other supporting activities.

  Based on prescribed methodology, sets up test equipment as necessary to obtain scientific data.

  Using established prescribed templates, prepares data analysis, modeling, written reports, maps, etc. as appropriate to support findings as it pertains to the natural or man-made environment in the study area.

  Under the assistance of a Senior Scientist, prepares assessment of potential effects from construction and/or operation of proposed transportation projects.

  Maintains administrative records, collections, and files related to specific projects.

  Keeps current with trends, literature, and new developments in ecology and environmental science as it relates to their specific technical area of proficiency.

  Assists team in the production of project deliverables.

  Performs other duties as assigned.

  What You'll Need:

  Bachelor's degree in Geology, Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Archeology, Anthropology, or related fieldWhat You'll Bring:

  Exhibits proficiency in applied geology and engineering.

  Must possess strong analytical, organizational and communication skills. Displays proficienty in Microsoft Office Suite and other software as required for job assignments.

  What We Prefer:

  Existing GRIT, EIT, or path to obtain PG or PE.

  Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in geology, engineering geology or geological engineering

  1-3 years of relevant experience
