This vacancy is located in the Nutritional Services Department at the Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System in Jackson, LA. ELMHS is the largest 24-hour, multi-site, state psychiatric complex, comprised or residential, outpatient and inpatient services.
*This posting may be used to fill vacancies in other divisions or units at Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System within 90 days of closing.
This position may be filled as either Probational; a promotion (open to all statewide classified and Agency wide permanent status employees); or Detail to Special Duty. Current permanent status, classified employees may be required to accept a Probational appointed if selected.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a permanent Louisiana Dietitian/Nutritionist License plus four years of professional level dietetics experience.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
A master's degree in food and nutrition, dietetics or institutional management will substitute for one year of the required experience.
NOTE: Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

Job Distinctions:
Differs from the Registered Dietitian - Nutritional Services Manager and Director by the responsibility for directing all food preparation and service operations in a health care facility nutritional services department which meets at least two (2) of the following criteria: (1) a departmental budget in excess of $900,000 per year; (2) meals served are in excess of 26,000 per month; (3) staff of over 25.
Examples of Work
Directs all food preparation and service operations.
Establishes long range objectives, short term goals, and priorities for the department.
Establishes requirements for all raw food purchases, supplies, and labor in accordance with a predetermined monthly and annual budget.
Supervises the food cost accounting procedures.
Determines and accurately allocates food service costs to patients and cafeteria patrons.
Establishes plans for departmental productivity and unit productivity.
Establishes mechanisms to accurately determine and assign labor costs to patients and non-patients.
Establishes requirements for inventory control for food supplies.
Establishes nutritional care programs for out-patients.
Determines the types of germicidal chemicals to be used regarding food safety.
Confers with other department heads in coordinating activities of the dietary department with other departments of the agency.
Establishes, implements, and interprets departmental policies and procedures.
Plans, in final, house menus and specifications for receipt and use of foodstuffs.
Supervises and evaluates Dietitians in the clinical areas.
May provide professional clinical dietary services such as dietary counseling, planning special diets, conducting dietary clinics, and analyzing food/drug interactions.
May direct the activities of administrative dietetics at Medical Center of Louisiana at New Orleans.
