  $5,000 Sign-On Bonus to eligible new employees joining UW Medicine UW Medical Center–Northwest has an outstanding opportunity for a New Graduate Registered Nurse to join us in our new Center for Behavioral Health and Learning building. This position will specifically work on our Long Term Civil Commitment Unit, which is located on the fourth and fifth floors of the facility.

  WORK SCHEDULE:

  3x12 shift schedule / 36 hours per week

  Nurse Residents will work a mix of day shifts (7:00am – 7:30pm) and night shifts (7:00pm – 7:30am)

  Must be able to work weekend shifts on a rotating basisThe anticipated start date for our residency is summer 2024. The Long Term Civil Commitment Unit will open to patients in July 2024. POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

  Transform your didactic experience into strong clinical competencies DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION Our Long Term Civil Commitment Unit is designed to support involuntary admits who require extended periods of care, including those requiring multi-month stays. Our services will include highly structured psychiatric care, services for patients with dementia and schizophrenia, and programs that promote independent functioning and transition to the community. The unit will have 75 beds available for intake and will play a key role providing person-centered care in a positive clinical environment. This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a one-of-a-kind team. ABOUT THE CENTER FOR BEHAVIORAL HEALTH AND LEARNING The new Center for Behavioral Health and Learning , opening on the UW Medical Center – Northwest campus in 2024, offers an unparalleled opportunity to transform mental health care and to improve mental health care training in our state. Located in NW Seattle, the new facility will feature 75 longer-term adult psychiatry beds, 25 geriatric psychiatry beds, 50 medical/surgical beds focused on patients with psychiatric comorbidities, and a state-of-the-art neuromodulation program. It will also house an interdisciplinary training and workforce development program focused on preparing and supporting the next generation of behavioral health providers for Washington State. The six-story building will be a beautiful place to work with lots of windows, natural lighting and open-concept spaces and will offer amenities including a new kitchen and dining area for patients, staff and visitors.Learn more about the Center for Behavioral Health and Learning here.   Work in partnership with a clinical preceptor to learn the foundations of behavioral health nursing

  Regularly attend orientations, seminars, and simulation trainings

  Triage incoming patients

  Provide behavioral health education to psychiatric patients and their families

  Ensure patient safety protocols are followed, including restraint protocols

  Monitor and administer oral and injectable medications

  Coordinate patient care with a multidisciplinary team, including social workers, psychiatrists, and occupational therapists

  Provide personalized care to psychiatric patients with compassion, dignity, and respect REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  Must be newly graduated from an ADN, BSN, or direct-entry MSN program

  Must be able to work 36 hours per week

  Active licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in Washington State (required by start date)
